Divorce is never acceptable; couples should work to overcome their problems Do you agree? (5)
There are a few varied opinions about this problem. First of all, members of the Roman Catholic Church would agree with this statement. They believe this because in the bible (Mark 10:9) it says that what God has joined together, let no one separate in direct reference to marriage, showing that God has specifically forbidden divorce. Furthermore, it is believed that marriage is a sacrament, meaning that it is a promise made in the presence of God, meaning that to break this promise would be a disgrace to God. Finally marriage also represents the relationship between Jesus and the church, therefore divorcing would mean disgracing this sacred bond. On the other hand, humanists have a very different view. They believe that it is acceptable and the right thing to do in certain circumstances. For example if there are unsolvable problems within the marriage then the better thing to do would be to divorce, rather than to remain in a unhappy, loveless marriage. Furthermore they believe that it is much better to divorce than to make children unhappy by remaining in a marriage that causes instability in the household. In conclusion, I disagree with the opening statement an agree more with the humanists than the Roman Catholics. I believe that no one should be forced to remain in an unhappy marriage and it is much better to get a divorce instead.
