Below you will find a problem pertaining to employee motivation. More specifically, a motivation problem that needs a solution is provided. Your task is to provide the most logical solution to this problem given your expertise and training in the area of motivation. This is an in class group project (groups of 4-6 students) worth 10% of your total overall grade. Your grade will be contingent on the appropriateness of your solution as deemed by the professor. You and your group members will receive a single overall grade for this project. You will also be asked to provide feedback on your performance and your group members performance. This performance feedback is required. Individual feedback is confidential and will not be shared with the group members. However, group level feedback will be provided to each group member later in this course for learning and developmental purposes. Accordingly, it is important that accurate feedback is provided for both self (i.e., self ratings of performance) and peer (i.e., ratings of other group member performance) development and improvement. Employee Motivation Problem Jonathan arrives to work every morning at exactly 9 AM. He leaves work every day at exactly 5 PM. On paper, there is nothing wrong or extraordinary about Jonathan. He is a model employee in some respects. He is reliable, follows standard procedure, and he is never a problem. However, Jonathan never exceeds expectations. He never thinks outside the box, he never produces extraordinary work, and he never leaves an impression on management. Of course, his job at Verizon, where he is a mid-level call center operator, does not inspire extraordinary performance. Jonathan feels that this job, like his life, is monotonous and a dead end.
On the separate pages provided, please address the following.
1. What is employee motivation? 2. Do you think Jonathan is a motivated employee? 3. How can Verizon increase Jonathan's motivation? (Note: motivation for what?) 4. Do you think that Verizon should consider Jonathan for promotion?
