Types of Switch
Difference between Hub & Switch Advantages & Disadvantages

Definition
HUB:

A hub provides a common connection point for a group of devices in a network. When a packet arrives at the hub, it is transmitted to all other network nodes connected to that hub.
A switch transmits packets on a network, but instead of sending them to all nodes on the network like a hub, it sorts out the packets and only sends them to the proper node. This allows each node on the network to use the full capacity of the network channel; with a hub the network capacity is shared among the nodes.

SWITCH:

Types of Switches
Active Switch:Active switch use to manage network traffic to the particular destination.

Passive Switch:Passive switch is use to amplify signal but its not use to follow intelligent network traffic.

Difference B/W Hub & Switch

Distribute speed Distribute speed

equally to all Nodes. (Except alive or dead)

Low Bandwidth

only on alive Nodes

High Bandwidth

Doesnt amplify signal

Amplify Signal

Advantages & Disadvantages

Switch amplify signal Hub doesnt amplify

signal.
Switch always divide Hub always divide total

total speed on active nodes.

speed on total network nodes.

Manage network traffic.

First time use for STAR

topology.
