Mechanism of Action:

Duricef 500mg T.I.D. First-generation cephalosporins Used in the systemic treatment of infections Cefadroxil binds to one or more of the penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) which inhibits the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis in bacterial cell wall, thus inhibiting biosynthesis and arresting cell wall assembly resulting in bacterial cell death. Cefadroxil is not active against Proteus, Pseudomonas, Enterobacter, Morganella, Serratia and Listeria monocytogenes. Absorption: Well absorbed from the GI tract (oral); peak plasma concentrations after 1.5-2 hr. Distribution: Body tissues and fluids (wide); crosses the placenta and enters breast milk. Protein-binding: 20%. Excretion: Via urine by glomerular filtration and tubular secretion (90% as unchanged); 1.5 hr (elimination half-life), prolonged in renal impairment. Advise patient to take medication as directed. Store the tablets and capsules at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Take this medication exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these instructions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you. Take each dose with a full glass of water
