Examples and sources of air pollutants

Air pollutants 1. Solid particles(suspended in the air) Such as metallic particles, asbestos, soot, dust and smoke sources Open burning, forest fire ,factories, deforestion

2. Nicotine, tar, tobacco and carcinogenic substance

3. Carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon 4. Sulphur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide

Cigarette smoke
Combustion of fuel from factories, vehicles and power stations Combustion of substances containing sulphur and nitrogen, such as polymers and plastics Agricultural activities Radioactive waste discarded by nuclear power stations Air conditioners, refrigerator and aerosol spray Combustion of paint, leaded petrol

5. Residue of pesticides 6. Radioactive rays 7. Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) 8. Lead

EFFECTS OF AIR POLLUTION ON HUMAN BEINGS AND THEIR SURROUNDINGS

Air pollutions Smoke and soot From cigarettes, motor vehicles, burning rubbish, fossil fuel burning and forest fire Dust Carbon monoxide Oxides of nitrogen

Effects Haze, eye irritation and breathing difficulties Cough& athma, lung cancer Death, brain damage,Tiredness, headache Acid rain

Sulphur dioxide

Kills plants, kills aquatic life, damages marble, limestone, damage metals and damage lung cells
Atmosphere cannot filter harmful ultraviolet light, damage ozone layer Recards childrens mental
