It is first of all edit the maya.rayrc file found in the Maya2013/mental ray folder
Open Mudbox and use one of the simple model available there;
Go (page down) to the base layer 0 Setup the Ptex (Mesh>>Ptex Setup)
And Paint
Inside Maya notice that the file has the texture displayed in Viewport 2.0 but not in render window
The rendered frame is using Mental Ray Open the HyperShade/NodeEditor/Persp View
Map the material Create Node by clicking on the <tab> Key and type Mib_ This will bring a dropdown of options sellect Mib_ptex_lookup
Copy the path name of the ptex file from the file node
Connect the mib_ptex_lookup to the color input of the material (which will automatically disconnect the previous file input)
Select the Model and go to the mental ray Approximation Windows>>rendering Editors >>Mental Ray >> Approximation Editor
