FOCUS/RATIONALE
This task is aimed at informing the students about the historical context of the Holocaust. Through the use of primary source materials, the students will begin to actively reflect on their experiences involving the Six Million Paper Clips text and the Paperclips documentary. The goal of this task is to create a sense of empathy within the students by educating them about the realities of this horrific event.
PRE-ACTIVITY 1
After viewing the documentary, it is suggested that a debriefing session be used to facilitate the start of this project. Sample Debriefing Questions: What do you know about the Holocaust? What do you want to know about the Holocaust? What do you think was the purpose of the documentary Paper Clips (to inform, to entertain, to persuade)?
Introduce the Journal Assignment resource to students and explain the expectations in relation to the journal activities that will be completed for each of the five tasks leading to the culminating task. Review the rubric with them.

It is important for every person to be sufficiently present to himself in order to hear and follow the voice of his conscience. This requirement of interiority is all the more necessary as life often distracts us from any reflection, self-examination or introspection.
Return to your conscience, question it. . . . Turn inward, brethren, and in everything you do, see God as your witness.51 ~ Cathechism of the Catholic Church, London: Burns & Oates, 1999, 1779
