Sunlight Industries Limited Facts

Sunlight Industries limited (SUL) manufactures consumer durable products and has a substantial market share. The manufacturing plant is located in a city, in northern India which is more famous for its culture, art and heritage and workers had deep roots in the agricultural hinterland. In order to meet the market share and demand SUL subcontracted the manufacturing of many components to vendors and it has also helped to tide over any production and delivery problems. Absenteeism in SUL which averaged to 11.4% due to laid back approach of its labour and their frequent visit to village and this was going on in SUL for decades. SUL was facing competition, both in domestic as well as foreign. Customers were demanding better quality product. SUL products were facing quality issue and management feels that due to quality issue they may lose substantial market share. There are six trade unions in the manufacturing plant and most of trade union leaders are list bother. SUL had a production incentive scheme and it also had 2-3 QC groups but these also didnt improve absentee record.
