    LNG Loading Lines Surge Analysis for ESD System Application

    Nasrul Syahruddin Engineer, Mechanical Group Facilities Engineering Technical Department Bontang Kalimantan Timur, 75324 ABSTRACT Application of ESD (Emergency Shutdown System) for LNG Loading Arms was implemented after certain years of operation. The initial design basis of the loading line was based only on pressure and temperature of LNG. Failure of LNG loading line may occur when surge pressure caused by ESD activation exceed the initial design pressure of LNG loading line. An analysis and evaluation for several cases of LNG loading scenario were carried out to address the maximum resulted surge pressure caused by activation of ESD. The resulted surge pressure then compared to design pressure of LNG loading lines. As the results, some cases showed the maximum surge pressure will exceed the design pressure. Therefore, several protection devices shall be installed to avoid LNG loading lines failure due to ESD activation. Keyword : Surge Pressure, LNG, ESD.
