Migration from hybrid to full packet can be implemented smoothly via SW upgrade
FlexiPacket Microwave hybrid mode solution includes the following: FlexiPacket MultiRadio (ODU) FlexiPacket Hub 800 (IDU)
This document concerns the functionalities supported by the Hybrid mode software release (R.H01)
FPH800 addresses both tail and chain sites, and thanks to its variety of interfaces and modularity, perfectly suits in hub and edge sites. It is a cost-effective solution for all sites requiring multi-traffic aggregation, i.e. TDM + Ethernet. It fits in the standard Nokia Siemens Networks Flexi BTS outdoor housing, providing a zero-footprint solution and an extensive operating temperature range. Figure below provides a complete mobile backhauling solution with Nokia Siemens Networks FlexiPacket Hub 800 covering MBH segment from tail/chain sites to Hub/Edge sites.
According to the FPH800 front panel view (see Figure 2), it has the following interfaces: Main board 2 x DC input (-48 V) 4 x 10/100/1000 BaseT electrical GE ports (two ports supports ODU power feeding) 2 x Small Form Pluggable (SFP) STM-1/GE ports 16 x E1 port 1 x DCN port (local and remote management) 1 x OOB port (local management) 1 x Alarm port (two input and two output, used for alarm interface) 1 x USB port supported cards for two plug-in units: - The two plug-in units are equipvalent to each other, there is no slot restriction for the inserted card.
3.1.2 Licencing
FPH800 is delivered to customer together with dedicated software release for hybrid operation (via eMedia or CD), providing the basic and essential functions needed infield, which is the basic licence configuration, while there are additional features that could be required, for instance, when the network scales up, or network security is required etc. The basic licence configuration is: enabling of E1/STM-1 ports and Ethernet ports in Main Board FPH800 H1.0 provides the following upgrading licences: RSTP/MSTP support (Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol/Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol) Encryption functions of secure management protocols (in future release): SNMP v3.0 SSH SFTP HTTPS If the upgrading licences are ordered together with the equipment, licences are installed during commissioning. In-field licence upgrading is also supported, which can be done by Nokia Siemens Networks service staff or by the operator themselves. The upgrading can be done locally or remotely through the EMS (Element Management System) while the equipment is running and without traffic disruption.
4 Features
4.1 Flexipacket Hub 800 main features
The followings are the FPH800 hybrid mode main features:
Native TDM and native Ethernet traffic TDM Cross-Connect + Packet-switching QoS E1 ring protection RSTP/MSTP (Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol/Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol) STM-1 MSP (Multiplex Section Protection) Web-based Local Craft Terminal (LCT) management
All the 4 GE RJ45 ports on FlexiPacket 800H mainboard support IU/OU interface mode.
The real number of E1 channels over IU/OU depends on the configured RF bandwidth and modulation and activation of the E1 numbers by the user. The E1 cross connection is bidirectional and flexible, any E1 channel can be CC to another E1 channel.

The MAC address aging time is configurable from 100 seconds to 2000 seconds in step of 1 second, and the default value is 300 seconds. The MAC table is automatically learnt but it is possible for the user to configure static MAC table entries and the static entries will never be deleted by the aging function. Besides learning and matching the source and destination MAC addresses, VLAN ID is also used to determine the egress port in traffic forwarding.

5 Traffic Protections
5.1 Ring Protections
E1 traffic and Ethernet traffic are protected separately over ring respectively with SNCP like protection and RSTP/MSTP protocols
14
5.1.2 RSTP/MSTP
Rapid/Multiple Spanning Tree protocol is supported in FPH800 to provide a loop-free redundantnetwork topology, preventing the network from broadcast storm.

Mixed configuration of (1 + 1) + 2 x (1 + 0) is also supported. In a typical example Figure below, twoFlexiPacket MultiRadio (ODUs) are configured as 1 + 1 pair, the other two FlexiPacket MultiRadio (ODUs) are connected to separated radio links. The protection scheme can be revertive or nonrevertive based on the configuration.

6 Management
6.1 Network management using Nokia Siemens Networks NetAct
Nokia Siemens Networks NetAct (later referred to as NetAct) is the central network management system for collecting alarms and measurement data from FPH800 and associated FlexiPacket radio in the network. Communication between NetAct and the network elements is enabled via IP DCN. Fault and performance management data is collected to NetAct via NetViewer-NetAct Connector that's integrated to NetViewer EMS.
