CHILD DROWNS IN RESERVOIR Earlier this morning, the body of three-year old Ledaro Micky was recovered from City of Greenville Reservoir No. 4, near the GEUS Power Plant. At approximately 5:54 p.m. on Monday, June 11, 2012, units with the Greenville Police Department and Greenville Fire-Rescue responded to a call of a child who had fallen into the reservoir, located at 4200 Power Lane in Greenville. According to witnesses, the child was fishing with his parents and fell into the south side of the small pond adjacent to the reservoir. The childs father attempted to grab the child from the water but was unable to pull him to safety due to the swift current. Once the power plant pumps were shut off, divers entered the water to begin searching for the boy. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Game Warden also responded to the scene. Boats with sonar and drag equipment begin searching the waters for the missing child. Shortly before midnight, severe weather, high wind, and lightning moved into the area. The inclement weather and low nighttime visibility halted the search until this morning. Meanwhile overnight, crews with the Public Works Department moved in with heavy equipment to create a steel barrier at the outlet, so that water could be pumped from the area where the boy had entered the water in an effort to facilitate the search that began again around 7 a.m. this morning. At approximately 8:30 a.m., the body of Ledaro Micky was recovered from the north side of the small pond adjacent to the reservoir. It is believed that the swift water carried the child through the inlet under the roadway and into other side of the pond. Justice of the Peace Shelia Linden performed the inquest. The childs body was taken to the Medical Examiners Office in Dallas. The City of Greenville expresses it sympathy to the family of Ledaro Micky and extends its thanks to the Red Cross and all of the men and women that responded to the scene to aid in the recovery effort. Funeral services for the child are pending.
