June 2012 Neva Phillips Salvos Crisis Partners Coordinator Neva.Phillips@aus.salvationarmy.org Dear Ms Phillips, Monthly Donation, Partner Number <Removed> While it is obvious the Salvos do great work in the community some of the Positional Statements held by the organization frustrate me greatly; particularly the views regarding marriage and homosexuality. I refer to the PDF document available on your website at http://t.co/nF6mRqX2. In the second paragraph you say that .the bible expressly opposes homosexual practice and refer to Leviticus 18:22 as the applicable scripture to back up your position. As someone who is gay I find your stance on the matter completely unacceptable. The bible teaches many things but too often people are very selective about what parts they choose to believe as gospel and what parts are acceptable to ignore. Does the Salvation Army also have positional statements on unkempt hair or torn clothes (Leviticus 10:6), eating fat (Leviticus 3:17) or cutting your hair at the sides of your head or the edges of your beard (Leviticus 19:17)? Do the Salvos shops offer for sale clothes that are woven with two kinds of material? Leviticus 19:19 clearly states this is unacceptable. How many people either on your staff or accept your help and assistance have tattoos in violation of Leviticus 19:28? Need I go on? You may say that these verses are out of date and or that they are no longer applicable to our society. However Luke 16:17 states that It is easier for heaven and earth to disappear than for the least stroke of a pen to drop out of the Law. The law is contained in Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy and Luke 16:17 makes it clear these rules were to be taken as one Law all or nothing. It is detestable that the Salvos take the Lords word and use it against those who are homosexual by his making. Discrimination and prejudice such as this helps perpetuate homophobia in our community and persists in causing gay people difficulties in life; be they young people who are unsure of their sexuality or older people who have lived with the burden of being gay for many years. The views of the Salvation Army encourage the continuation of homophobia in our community and this is something I cannot support. Therefor I would ask you to cancel my monthly donation under partner number <removed> effective immediately. Thankyou, Kieran Murphy
