Liquid cooling Systems PHASE-I

The project has been divided into two phases, in the first phase the experimentation would be done without using any Nano fluids. The Second phase would involve experimentation with different types of Nano fluids. For the first phase of the project our main concern is the effect of cooling block geometries on the convective heat transfer from the processor to the coolant. Listed below are the themes for the two phases of the project. THEME for phase - I: Effect of Cooling Block Geometry on the Convective heat transfer. THEME for Phase II: Effect of different Nano fluids on the convective heat transfer.

Phase I
The phase I will start on 18th of June 2012 and will be completed during the summer holidays (in every respect). Following are the tasks that need to be completed before we can start the experimentation for phase I. Increase the RAM of the system and Install windows 7 Install the software that monitors the Processor temperature during operation Get and install micro voltmeters along with the necessary calibration Get the charger for Ultrasonic flow meter and install flow control valve

After completing these tasks the apparatus would be ready for experimentation. The Key Variables that we are investigating in this phase are 1. Fin spacing on the cooling block ( 5 different spacing of Pin Fins) 2. Different types of fins ( Pin Fins, Straight rectangular and straight triangular fins) Therefore a total of 8 different cooling blocks would be manufactured. The material for cooling blocks would be Copper. The coolants that we will use in this phase are 1. Water 2. Ethylene Glycol 3. As recommended by Dr. Ali Constants: Flow rate Radiator fan speed Processor load

The Flow chart illustrates the phase I.
