Types Poetry

There are many types of poetry Most are divided into two categories; lyrical or narrative Narrative poetry tells a story Lyrical poetry does not tell story, but describes an emotion, thought, or state of being

Parts of Poem

Line - a single line of words in a poem Refrain (chorus)- a repeated part of a poem at the end of a stanza or between two stanzas Stanza - a set of lines in a poem, set apart from other sets of lines by space the space between stanzas usually means a pause between thoughts, concepts or actions Verse - a stanza without a regular pattern of lines

Types of Stanzas
Couplet - 2 Triplet - 3 Quatrain - 4 Quintain - 5 Sestet - 6 Octet - 7

Types of Rhyme

End rhyme rhymes occur at the end of the lines Near rhyme words LOOK like the should rhyme, but dont (love/move) Internal rhyme rhymes occur within the lines Rhyme scheme pattern of rhyming words
