A man should keep his friendship in constant repair - Samuel Johnson (1755).
Dear Friends Commencing with this issue of the News Sheet, I have taken over the mailing to overseas members. This will save money and be quicker. This morning, (30th June), I will finish editing the News sheet around 10am, print it by 1pm and mail it by 4pm the same day. I will use a facility I have through my business for bulk mailing (see the envelopes) whereby I can seal the envelopes but still send them at the airmail printed paper rate. Please let me know if you experience any new problems with the receipt of your News Sheet or have any other queries about the mailing. Maud will continue the UK mailing. On behalf of overseas members, I would like to thank Stella and Ted, G2HKU, who have been mailing your News Sheet, FOCUS etc. Despite some recent health problems, they have never missed an edition, always mailing it either the same day or the day after when I have been able to get the copies to them. Thanks Stella and Ted for a job very well done. I am amazed at the number of members who use, or have acess to, the Internet. Since I mentioned my use of it in the June News Sheet, I have been collecting memberss e-mail addresses and much of the information in this months News Sheet was received this way. G3MXJ and I am thinking of revising the layout of the Call Book for 1996 to cater for this and other modern technology developments. We are thinking of providing three lines of text for each member instead of the present two. The third line would be used to give the members email address and/or fax number. If a member has neither then the line will be left blank. Your views will be appreciated by Dennis or myself, together with your email and fax numbers if you think it is a good idea. Talking of the Call Book, eagle-eyed members will have noticed the name June against my entry in the new 1995 Call Book. June is the new lady in my life and some of you met her at Dayton and the Washington Dinner. She is very keen to meet more members and become involved with FOC. Last week-end we spent five days with OK1CZ and Blanka in Prague. I had promised Peter I would of entries in this months table is another record at 172, 34% of the membership. I find this very encouraging in view of the generally poor conditions at the bottom of the sun-spot cycle. Finally, please note that G3LIK will be operating G4FOC during the Late Summer QSO Party on 26/27th August. Mick will concentrate on the WARC bands. Chris

HARROGATE by G3PDL
36 members, wives and guests attended the Get-Together on the 17th June and a very relaxed and pleasant evening, preceded by an excellent meal from the new carvery at the Imperial Hotel, was enjoyed by all the attendees: G3IGW, G3PDL, G4MH, G3LTV, G3RXP, G3JKB, G3RCU, G4GLL, G3JHF, G3SWH, G3SJJ,
G2FFO, G3IY, G3BEX, G3LWI, GCMM, G3XNG, G4KGG, G4ZVJ and GAYN. We seemed to lack a photographer this year, so there is unlikely to be any photographs for FOCUS. As the date has slowly been creeping forward year by year, I have provisionally asked the hotel to pencil in the 29th June for 1996.
G4BLX: Derek will be QRV 7/14 August as F/G4BLX/P. GW3HCL: Dan has been driven crazy by his first computer as he learns about the new technology. He has worked 16 members on the satellites so far. WA1G: Bruce and Donna will be staying with GUHK (NZ1W) in London for Lords and afterwards with G4PKT and GM3YTS, before visiting Ireland where Bruce will be QRV with his EI9IA call from EI5FRs QTH in Galway. Bruce has secured the call KB1BQC for New England FOC and hopes to obtain either W1FOC or K1FOC when specific call sign requests are accepted by the FCC. N3SZQ: Joci has been QRV as HA7PB from his family QTH outside Budapest. He will be there throughout August. N4OO: Ink has been using a lazy half wave sloper on 40m that seems to play fairly good. It starts out about 38ft off the ground and slopes down at 45 to a post about 10ft high. The other quarter wave goes off horizontally. The feed is at the centre, which is the 10ft post. It read 48 ohms after trimming 3 inches from the bottom horizontal, leg. Ink will try phasing two of these antennas next and says the same thing could be used on 80m with a higher tower, one of his many projects for this summer. K5MA: Jan worked Ted, G4UPS, on 50MHz recently. K7UOT: Tom recently spent an evening with David, VK2AYD, and Dee when they visited Salt Lake City on their tour. NR7O: Tony has retired and will be in XE2 land for the next year, but is keeping an address in California. NZO: Pat runs a pactor maibox (using WinLink) on 10128 from approx 0700 to 1900 Eastern daylight time and QSYs to
3622 at 1900 and remains on that frequency until 0700 the following morning (or when I get off work) He dispatches during the graveyard shift for the local police department in Lady Lake. Pat passes traffic to W2NRE in New York who in turn has a wormhold into England which provides less than 24 hour service (depending on when traffic is put on the board). Hes been doing this for the past two years and says FOC members are welcome to use the board. OH2BDA: Seppo has been using the new Icom DSP transceiver, the IC-775, for two weeks and says it is a super good rig, fine RX with lots of tools for killing QRM, etc. Perhaps Seppo will let me have a write-up about it for FOCUS as Im sure members would like to know more about this transceiver from the CW user point of view. Is any other member using an IC775? SM5GLC: Lasses new home in Linkping has a large garden with flower borders, fruit trees and room for antennas. He asks members to keep their ears open for some fresh RF from his new QTH. VE7NH: Doug cannot make Lords this year due to a sudden change of plans. Z23JO: Mal was recently given a real Vibroplex key which looks like one of the originals. He last used a bug key 30/35 years ago and is therefore bashing away quietly to start with. ZL2AGY: Tony operated from the ZL2K site in the IARU Contest and was pleased to stir up nearly 200 QSOs on 15m, and even a few on 10m. His claimed score of 243k points from 628 QSOs and 80 mults is his best effort to date, and he was delighted to have 25 QSOs with FOC members during the contest.
