Undergraduate College Education and Degree: I earned a B.A. with majors in Philosophy and Biology at Occidental College, Los Angeles, California, which is a small private liberal arts college. For 125 years, Oxy has been a tight-knit community of students and scholars who come together in the heart of Los Angeles, one of the most stimulating and creative cities in the world. Oxy boasts a firmly rooted tradition of academic achievement and dedicated community service. You may not have known that President Barack Obama was once an Oxy tiger. Graduate University Education: When I was 10 years old, I set out on a 10 year plan and goal to graduate from college and attend medical school. Ten years later, I found myself studying biomedical sciences and medicine at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine, which is a large public university. After two years, it is my work at a community health clinic set up at an elementary school that lead me to pursue the education-holistic health connection. Graduate University Education and Degree: I earned a Master of Science in teaching from Fordham University Graduate School of Education in New York, New York, which is a medium sized private university. I taught my first class of 5th graders entirely in Spanish, since they had recently arrived to the United States from various Latin American countries. For this reason, I took many extra classes to learn about language acquisition and bilingual education. Subject(s) Taught: I have taught elementary to college level courses. Why I Teach: I teach because I get to pioneer the science of learning and achieve the unimaginable with young spirits, minds, and hearts to expand our horizons of hope. Children are our future and at some point they need to figure out intergalactic travel. Interesting Fact: My last name is also the name of a state and city in Mexico. I married my beautiful wife in Mexico and lived and taught there for some time. We named our children, Quetzal Sol and Paloma, which are names with significance to our cultural heritage, which is Mexican and Filipino. Favorite Book and/or Author: The Little Prince, by Antoine de Saint-Exupry, makes several profound and idealistic observations about life and human nature, such as, Grown-ups never understand anything by themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them. Inspirational Quote: And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair. Khalil Gebron
