Replacing the BAM with the EWS (Separate BAM and iGWB) NOTE: check that the system

time of the EWS is correct and same as that of the B AM server (i.e. the windows server 2000 OS time) This section describes the operation procedures for replacing the BAM with the E WS (separate BAM and iGWB). Prerequisites Make the following preparations before replacing the BAM with the EWS: Ensure that the EWS works properly. If the BAM is infected with virus, first che ck and ensure that the EWS is free from virus. If the EWS is infected with virus , scan the EWS, remove the viruses, and then reinstall the EWS. Ensure that patches running on the EWS and on the BAM are consistent. The EWS pa tches do not run automatically. Therefore, manual operation is required to patch the EWS. Check whether the versions of the BAM software and the OMC patch on the EWS and those on the BAM are consistent. Perform CRC on the BAM data and the data of the host to ensure that the data on the EWS is consistent with that on the host. If the BAM is already disconnected with the host, check whether alarms indicating CRC error are generated. Ensure that the Ethernet cables that connect the EWS to 0#LAN Switch and 1#LAN S witch in the integrated configuration cabinets are correctly installed and are i n the offline state. Ensure that the EWS is correctly loaded with the license. Procedure 1. Manually back up the BAM database. In the case that a failure occurs on the BAM, manually back up the BAM database (unless the BAM Manager program cannot run at all) to ensure consistency of the data before and after the BAM is replaced by the EWS. a. Stop all the data configuration operations. To ensure security, temporar ily disconnect the Ethernet cables that connect the BAM to the external network. b. Start the Local Maintenance Terminal (LMT) , and then run BKP DB to manu ally back up the BAM database. c. Install the Ethernet cables that connect the BAM to the external compute r network, and then copy the latest files .dat, .reg, and .bak to F:\MSOFTX3000. Enter the correct installation directory if the installation directory listed h ere differs from the actual situations. NOTE: To ensure security, you are advised to store the latest files in another subdire ctory (another directory other than F:\MSOFTX3000) on the EWS. To directly copy the data on the BAM to the EWS through network, perform the fol lowing steps: d. On the desktop of the Windows operating system, choose Start > Run . e. Type directly \\SX3KBAM\F$\MSOFTX3000, where SX3KBAM is the name of the BAM computer. Enter the correct command if the command listed here differs from the actual situations. f. In the Enter Network Password window displayed, enter the administrator account and the password of the Windows 2000 Server installed on the BAM. g. After the authentication, you can directly access F:\MSOFTX3000 of the B AM on the EWS. h. Copy the data stored in the hard disks of the BAM. 2. Disconnect the BAM from all the networks. Disconnect the BAM from all the networks, including the connection between the B AM and the host and the connection between the BAM and the external computer net work, by removing the Ethernet cables. a. Disconnect the communication between the BAM and the host. Remove from t he BAM side the two Ethernet cables that connect the BAM to the 0#LAN Switch and 1#LAN Switch.

b. Disconnect the communication between the BAM and the external computer. Remove from the BAM side the Ethernet cables that connect the BAM to the externa l computer. 3. Restore the BAM database on the EWS by using the latest data. To ensure data consistency on the EWS, restore the BAM database by using the lat est data before activating the EWS. For details, see Restoring Databases. 4. Start the BAM Manager. Normally, the EWS cannot automatically start the BAM Manager. To enable the EWS to provide the functions of the BAM, you must manually start the BAM Manager on the EWS. On the desktop of the Windows operating system, choose Start > Programs > MSOFTX 3000 Server > MSOFTX3000 Bam . The BAM Manager is started, as shown in Figure 1. Figure 1 BAM Manager window 5. Format all the data. On the desktop of the Windows operating system, choose Start > Programs > Huawei Local Maintenance Terminal > Local Maintenance Terminal, and then log in to the MSOFTX3000 as an administrator. Run the following MML commands on the LMT. a. Set the system to the offline state. LOF:; b. Set the formatting switch to ON. SET FMT: STS=ON; c. Format all the data. FMT:; 6. Re-configure the network parameters and resume the network connection of the EWS. CAUTION: The EWS and the host are connected according to the standard connection specific ations. If the BAM and the host fail to communicate with each other, connect the network adapter 1 of the EWS to 1#LANSwitch and network adapter 2 of the EWS to 0#LAN Switch. a. Set the IP address of the network adapter that connects the EWS to the e xternal computer network to the IP address of the corresponding network adapter of the BAM. In this way, other workstations can log in to the BAM, that is, the workstations can log in to the EWS that serves as the BAM. b. Set the IP address of the network adapter through which the EWS communic ates with the host. Set the IP address of network adapter 1 to 172.20.200.0/255. 255.0.0, and the IP address of network adapter 2 to 172.30.200.0/255.255.0.0. c. Install the Ethernet cables between the EWS and the host. Connect the ne twork adapter 1 of the EWS to 0#LAN Switch, and the network adapter 2 of the EWS to 1#LAN Switch. 7. Switch to the online status. Start the LMT on the EWS, and then run the LON command to connect EWS to the net work. 8. Verify the license. On the LMT, run STR LICCRC or DSP LICENSE to check whether the license on the EW S is the same as that on the host. If the two licenses are not consistent, run L OD LICENSE to reload the license file to the EWS. Assume that the name of the li cense file is licSpection0810.DAT. The following table describes an example for running the LOD LICENSE command. Description Load the license file, and set License file name to licSpection0 810.DAT and Location to BAM. Script LOD LICENSE: FN="licSpection0810.DAT", LT=BAM; Remark The parameter License file name specifies the name of the license file t o be loaded. The rules for setting this parameter are as follows: The license file can be stored only in the path D:\MSOFTX3000\License (separate BAM and iGWB) or G:\MSOFTX3000\License (combined BAM and iGWB) on the BAM (namel y, the EWS here). The name of the license file cannot contain path information.

The name of the license file must be in the lic*.dat format. The parameter Location specifies the location to which the license file is to be loaded. The host is not involved in the switchover between the EWS and BAM. The refore, the license on the host is considered as correct in this step. In this w ay, you can load the license file to the BAM (namely, the EWS here) only. In the LOD LICENSE command, Location is set to BAM, indicating that the license file i s loaded to the BAM (namely, the EWS here). NOTE: After reloading the license file, run STR LICCRC or DSP LICENSE to check whether the license on the EWS is the same as that on the host. If the two license file s are still not consistent, contact Huawei technical support engineers. 9. Verify the data. Run the STR CRC command to check the host data and BAM data. If all the data tab les are correct, you can directly go to 10. If any data inconsistency occurs, perform the following steps: . Run the LST USD command to check for the existence of the data records t hat have not been sent to the host. If such data records exist, run the SND USD command to send these data records. a. Collect the operation records generated after the date on which the BAM database is backed up. You can view the command operation log to confirm the ope ration records by running LST CMDLOG. Then, perform the operations recorded in t he operation records for a second time. b. Run the STR CRC command to check the consistency of the data on the BAM and that on the host. If data inconsistency still persists, contact the Technica l Support Department of Huawei in time. 10. Verify the BAM functions provided by the EWS. Log in to the MSOFTX3000 terminal system (EWS) through the LMT on an ordinary wo rkstation. Then, perform query or maintenance operations on the LMT, such as dis playing the panel of the device, querying all kinds of office data, displaying t he status of the gateway, and displaying the status of signaling links. If all t he preceding operations can be successfully performed, the EWS can operate prope rly as the BAM.
