Teacher/Pupils Activities Teacher asks pupils if they have been invited to any occasions such as a birthday party or breakfast/lunch/tea time/dinner treat and what foods are offered to them in those occasions. Teacher divides pupils into 5 groups. Pupils have to write 5 types of food offered in the specific occasions given on the mahjong paper. Teacher distributes a dialogue about an invitation to lunch. Teacher asks the pupils to read silently and tell what the conversation is all about. Teacher explains the function of - Would you like.? - Please have. - Please come in the dialogue. (to invite and to offer food/drinks) Teacher shows examples of accepting and declining the invitation and offer by using sentence cards. e.g. Yes, I would love to. (to accept) Yes, please. (to accept) Im sorry, I cant. Ive just had supper. (give reason) (to decline) No, thank you. (to decline) Teacher repeats the target dialogue chorally and individually. Pupils fill in gaps with appropriate information and practice in pairs. Teacher checks and corrects the pronunciation of the pupils while they are practicing the language expressions. Teacher asks a pair of pupils to emerge with another pairs to produce extended dialogue. Pupils role play the new extended dialogue in front of the class.
