8th Pass! (The Curtain rises. The backdrop shows a School building. The Compere duo a boy and a girl - enter from opposite wings) Boy Girl Boy Girl Boy Girl Boy Girl Boy Good evening, everybody Good evening, everybody We are here to make this evening entertaining A little bit of fun, entertainment, and.. enlightenment too! I am sure you are bewildered at the enlightenment bit.:) Con, dont be so serious you girlies are always serious; yes, I say that serious even about funny things . And you boys are always funny even about serious matters. Ok baby, lets not fight and ruin this wonderful evening/morning and present something funny yet serious. .rather, seriously funny . Wow ! Is it something like a fairy tale . Or something related to childrens world of today? Your 2nd guess is correct. Its a topic very close to the heart of not only the children, but their parents too. Hay, but (looking at the wings) why this bells are ringing? Is that another Maha-Aarati? (Bells, which are generally rung during Aarti, start ringing in the wing of the stage) Boy Girl (looking towards the wings on the stage) Hey, just see there! Oh, thats Lord, Lord Ganesha . Ganapati Bappa!

(Lord Ganesha enters, sitting on a big mouse, holding a huge pen in his hand. Both the girl and the boy salute him, and the Lord blesses them) Girl Wow! Gr8 !! Lord Ganesha, We were just thinking of you and .. Boy True; Think of an angel and the angel is here! Lord Thats nice. But tell me, why did you remember me? Girl Because we are about to present our skit and you are the Lord of Performing Arts. Boy So, Ganeshji, we seek your blessings Lord Yes, I know. People have been worshiping me before beginning anything new. You know, why? Both No, Bappa, please tell us. Lord Because, I listen to all their prayers with my huge ears and keeps all their secrets, weaknesses and follies safe in my big tummy! Boy But tell me lord, where are you going today with this big pen? Lord Not going; In fact, I am returning from the Ashram of the great Rishi Vyas. He had assigned me the task of penning the Mahabharat an epic which is universally true for all the Ages The Past, Present, and the Future! Girl Bappa, will that old-time Mahabharat, the education system, then, hold good even today?

Lord Of course! The names, perhaps, may change, but the situations remain unchanged. Boy So, let us see what happens in the latest scenario on the education front itself. Girl Sure. Are we ready? (Looking to the Lord and the audience) Can we begin? Lord Sure, I will also be happy to see how much water it holds.. what I had penned down a long time ago. Boy Bappa, please bless us (They begin with closed eyes Humko Manki Shakti Dena (Guddi). As the prayer is nearing the end, the Lord blesses and exits. Lights fade out slowly Blackout) (Lights - The backdrop is the home of Karna a middle-class persons home) Boy Girl Boy This is the home of Karan. Karan? The one who was born to Kunti, out of wedlock? Correct. So, the unwed mother had left him on the doorsteps of an orphanage. Girl Even though he was a male child? One can well imagine if it were a girl child!!!!!!!! Boy But he is fortunate. He has been adopted by a couple Adhirath, a motor mechanic, and his wife Radha, who had no children and were longing for a baby. Girl They are poorfinancially Boy But rich in heart Girl So, they have put him in an English Medium School nearby, though they cant really afford it. Boy Today, the school has re-opened after vacation and little Karan is returning from school . (The boy & girl exit together and little Karan enters from the other wing. He is 5 years old, dressed in school uniform with a heavy school bag. Though adopted by the old couple, he is a quite pampered. He wears a disturbed look on his face; his mother enters, takes the school bag while his father takes the water bottle from Karans hands. ) Karan: Papa, tell me one thing. From where did I come? Papa (shocked) What? What are you upto? Karan: Please tell me from where I have come? Mom: Karan, thats a funny question? On the very first day of the school, this is what they have taught you? Karan: Mom, no arguments! I want a clear answer to my question. From where did I come? Papa: Aare bachhu, first change your clothes. We have been waiting for you. I have to go to the garage after lunch. I am already late. Come on dear!

Karan: (Firmly) NO! (He is upset. Without changing his clothes, he sits in a corner with the remote in his hand, to watch his favourite TV channel.Cartoon Network. His parents wonder as to what must have happened in school and begin discussing how to answer Karan) Mom: My God. I had been telling you not to put him in that modern school. You never know what they teach these little kids. Papa: And that too on the very first day? Anyway, there is no point in avoiding his query. If we dont tell him, he will ask someone else. So, its better we talk to him freely. The world is changing rapidly and so is the education system. Mom: And these TV channels and internet are adding fuel to fire. Papa: Anyways, lets us address his query sincerely. Mom: But what will be his reaction? Papa: Dont worry. Lets face the situation. We will try our best Come on Karan, come. We will tell you from where and how you have come. Karan: Thats OK, but Papa, why are you both so serious? Mom: Serious? You have really put us in a fix! (She drinks water for relief) (Both of them sit around the dining table and try to explain only by miming - as to how a child is born) Karan: What nonsense.(Gets up), Papa, today a new boy joined our class and when I asked him, he said, he has come from Goa! What about you? (Black out building) Lights the earlier backdrop of school

Girl: Oh God! Nowadays, parents take their children so seriously... Boy: Really. No doubt, times are changing, but these elders look at everything from their own M_m! Actually it is perspective that matters. Girl: What did you say..Perspective? How? Boy: You see; I will tell you. Listen. Long ago, there lived a king. He had all the wealth in the world, yet he was unhappy. Once a sage came to his kingdom. After paying his respects, the King asked him, Are you happy. The sage said, Yes. The King said, I also want to be happy. Please tell me the secret. The sage said, Its simple. Beginning today, you should see only one colour no other colour but green. Do this for seven days and you will be the happiest man in the world! The king thought this was quite easy. He immediately passed orders that everything in his kingdom should be painted green - the buildings, the Palaces, the inside rooms, even the trunks of the trees in his garden. Everybody, including the Queen, the Prince, the Princess, wore green clothes. The King too wore green. Girl: Perhaps, the only thing that he couldnt change was the sky thank God!

Page 3

Boy: Right, so he decided not to look at the sky. Days passed. On the 8th day, the Sage came back. He was stopped at the entrance and was asked to remove his clothes. Girl: Hey, what? Boy: Oh, I mean, to remove his saffron clothes. They offered him green. He finally reached the King and . Girl: He must have asked the king, Are you happy? Boy: Yep, and the king said, No, I am still not happy. Believe me, during the last seven days, I have not seen any colour, no other colour, but Green. only Green! Girl: So, what did the Sage say? Boy: He said, Oh King. Instead of doing all this, you could have worn a green goggle . Girl: Thats great! Boy: So, you see its our perspective and attitude that really matters. Girl: And perhaps, the same thing happened in the case of Eklavya, a poor OBC boy. Lets see what is happening in his home. (Both of them exit and the backdrop changes into Eklavyas small hut. His old mother is busy with the house-work while the father is reading the newspaper. Both are waiting for Eklavyas return from school. Eklavya enters with a heavy school bag on his shoulders tired.) Mom: You look very tired, my child. What happened? Nowadays, you dont look as cheerful as you were during the first days of school. Ekal: Nothing Mom. Nowadays, my Dron Sir makes me stand out of the classroom; he tries to find some fault with me. Papa: But why? What faults? Ekal: Papa, those are just petty pretexts. Actually, he does not like me as I am an OBC. Once he openly said that he was not at all in favor of my admission. Papa: Oh, I see! (His mother hugs and consoles him) Papa: Yes, my child. Passing mere legislations dont help us. I too am tired of all these agitations and they are taking the revenge on you. Ekal: Let it be, Papa. But you know, though I had to stand outside the whole day, I intently listen to and grasp everything that is taught inside! Mom: Thats really good. God is Great! Ekal: Mumma, listen what happened today. Today Dron Sir asked, Who is outstanding in our class? And that fatty Bhim said, Eklavya! Sir, that Eklavya is outstanding ..and everybody had a hearty laugh! (Blackout) (Backdrop has changed to the School Auditorium with big letters at the background Selection for National Maths Olympiad. Enters the Duo Comperes) Boy: Hey, whats happening here? (Looking behind) Oh, Maths Olympiad!
8th Pass by Anil Londhe Page 4

Girl: Yep! Today, they will select one student of course, the best one for the National Maths Olympiad from this school. Boy: Really? OK, come on; let us also see what is happening here. (He slowly goes in the wings by saying .Oh, here comes Dharam . Bhim ( Dharam and Bhim enter together) Girl: (approaching backwards to the wings) And, who are those two Lukkas? Boy: One is Nakul and the other, Sahadev. They live in the same Society, share the same compound. So, they always move together wherever they go. (Slowly the Duo exit in the wings on one side and from the other enter Nakul and Sahadev) Bhim: Today is the most boring day. I have done most of my sums by heart, but, I know, at the last minute, there will be some confusion. I wonder who invented this boring subject - Maths. If he meets me, I will simply smash him to a pulp. Why dont they hold competitions for wrestling? Dharam: Leave it, Bhim. Lets do some revision. OK? I will ask you some very simple questions. Tell me, what is the sum of 4 + 5? (writes on the blackboard) Bhim: So simple, its nine ! Dharam :Good, now tell me, 5 + 4? Bhim: How simple, Six ! Dharam: What? Bhima, think man, aare yaar, if 4+5 is nine, what will be 5+4? Bhim: Six ! Dharam: How? Bhim: When the figures were done upside down, the answer will also be . Dhar: You are a gone case! Come on, Nakul, you tell me now, what is half of 8? Nakul: Dharambhaiyya, but how to make it half? Dhar: Thats your problem Nakul. Tell me, what is half of 8? Nakul : Can I use the Board? (Dharam gets angry). Nakul : OK Dada (After lot of thinking) Its three! (happily), I got it !! Dhar: Stupid ! Sahadev: Dada, he is right. If we divide 8 horizontally, its ZERO and if we do it vertically, its three. (He shows this on the board also). (Arjun enters. He is smart, handsome, but is a bit nervous. ) Dharam: Come Arjun, welcome! Kunti mom has told me that today Arjun must score 100 out of 100. But dont be tense; you will definitely get 99.9% (Now the other batch enters Duryodhan, Dusshasan, and one or two more. They are {~ZYmV , over-confident, tension-free and undisciplined, as if they are going to have a wrestling with Maths) .

Duryodhan: There is no point in taking any tension. Howsoever hard we study, its of no use. Dron sir is bound to select his blue-eyed boy, Arjun. Dussason: Right. But one day we must teach him a lesson. Dury: Or we should strike a deal with that Krupa Sir ! Third: Hey, dont talk so loudly. Someone will hear our conversation. Fourth: (Yawns) Third: Hey, why are you yawning? Were you burning the midnight oil? One must have a sound sleep - at least for eight hours. Forth:(very lazily) Thats OK. But our classes are only for six hours . So! (Laughter) (Dron Sir, Kripa Sir and the Principal, Bhishma Sir enter.Pin-drop silence. Bhishma Sir takes his seat) Dron: Good morning everybody. Welcome to witnessing this test The test to decide the best student who will represent our school at the National Maths Olympiad. Its very tough and thats why we want to select one, only the best one ! . Over to Kripa Sir! Kripa: Good morning. I will now be writing on the blackboard one Hy$Q>Z and the student who answers first, will get the opportunity to represent our School. You can use Abacus, but no calculators. And, you cannot copy. Only one student will be selected. OK? Should we begin? Bhishm: One more thing. Please observe total silence, pin-Drop Silence. (Looking at the audience) No Mobiles. Please switch them off or on silent mode. OK? Kripa Sir, now you can start. (Kripa Sir starts writing a very big figure, then adds, subtracts, divides, multiplies with another huge figure, its percentile, etc. etc. All the students are busy with their abacus, but Duryodhan, Dussasan and others in their team dont even bother to look at the blackboard. By the time Kripa Sir finishes writing the problem and turns to the students, one of the boys from audience stands up and gestures with two of his fingers V. Duryodhan and Dussaasan look at him and try to draw Drona Sirs attention to that boy) Arjun:(With his back towards that boy and looking at Kripa Sir) Sir, Two! The Answer is TWO. Kripa: Congratulations Partha. You are Right! Dury: But sir, that boy has answered much before Arjun. Dron: (Looking angrily towards that boy) Who are you? Whats your name? (Karan stands silently with his poorly-dressed parents, with the V sign on) Dury: Come on, friend. Tell them. Dont be afraid. Come on. Whats your name?

Kripa: And he does not even belong to our school. (looking at his parents) Are they your parents? You dont look like their son. Bhishm (Raising his hand to stop Kripa Sir) Yes, my child, speak out.(Karan looks at his father) Adhirath: Sir, he is not our real child; we have adopted him. Kripa: An adopted child cant match the intelligence of ones own child. They are definitely different. Karan: Yes, Yes Sir. I know, they cant match. But I can tell you how they are different. A real child grows in the tummy of his mother, while an adopted child grows in the heart of his mother! Bhishm: Wonderful, my child, you are genuine! Kripa Sir, can we consider admitting him? Duryo: Sir, and his answer is also correct. Isnt it? He may not be from our school. So what? He is sharp and quick. We can take him to our school. Karan: (Embarrassed and shy) No, no, please. My papa cant afford this school. Kripa : Thats OK. We may consider him but only if he answers one more Hy$Q>Z correctly. OK? Karan: Sir, but is that question only for me or . Kripa : No, no. Its not only for you, but for Arjun too. Now only two of you are competing. Please take this Abacus. You can use it for solving this problem. (Hands over the Abacus to Karan) Karan: What is it Sir? (the Pandavas laugh at him, but Bhishms stern look silences them) Bhish: Child, this is an apparatus for solving Maths. Karan: But I dont know how to use it. Bhish: OK. No issues. Arjun, the contest can only be between equals. So, please . (Arjun surrenders his Abacus to Drona. Kripa Sir begins writing the next problem on the blackboard. Its very complicated. But by the time he finishes, Karan stands up and raises his index finger. At the next moment, Arjun also gets up and loudly declares the answer as ONE. He then notices Karan who is already standing with his index finger raised. Arjun gets embarrassed. Duryodhan, Dussasan and his team start jostling) Bhishm: (Happy with Karans answer, but worried about Arjun) Silence! Arjun, you have a tough competitor. Now, one more final question not on Maths, but GK! Ready? Tell me, which is the biggest city in the world? (Arjun looks around, quite confused) Karan: (Instantly) Sir, Thats CURIOSITY (smiling) the city which brought me here! (A big round of applause. Bhishma congratulates Karan and Duryodhan; and his team happily raise Karan on their shoulders and take him to their side.)

Dron: (sadly yet angrily) Hey, after all, he is the son of a motor mechanic. Instead of learning his own trade, he is aspiring to go for the Olympiad. I tell you, during the exam, the tyre of his car will burst! Blackout Lights come on slowly and the announcement begins from the wings: The results will be announced today. One can see anxious parents, mostly mothers, gathering one by one in the classroom.) Kunti: I am very tense, Madri. Thats what always happens. But once the results are declared and I learn that my Arjun stood first, my BP becomes normal. 120/80. Gandhari:(wearing goggles) Yes, I also get stressed. Whether it is Arjun or Karan whoever stands first to me both are equal. Though they fight amongst themselves, I know, they love each other. Madri: I am, however, worried about Nakul and Sahadev. Both of them are very sensitive. Even if they get 35%, I will be happy. Last week, I found a rope in Nakuls Study and was shocked! But he said, it was for skipping! I really wonder as to what is going on in their minds. Kunti: True! These children are really becoming unpredictable whether they stand first or fail! Madri: Gandhari, your children are great! They wont give up so easily. Gandhari: Thank God ! I constantly wear these goggles, pretending to be blind. I watch them like a hawk, and yet I am helpless. EH$ go ~T>H$a EH$ h gmao! But Karan is an exception. Kunti: Gandhari, tell me one thing. Has he really gelled with them? Gandhari: I am not sure. Many a time, I find him sitting alone, lost in thought; while Duryo, Dussha and others are watching TV, playing video games, surfing on the net or loitering in the Malls. He is quite reluctant to join them. (Students exit the classroom each one at a time) Madri: Oh, it seems that the results have been declared. See, they are coming out of the classroom. (Dharma comes out and declares that he has scored 55%; followed by Bhim 40%; Arjun 95% (looking unhappy), Duryo 45%, Dussa 43% (yet enjoying), and finally Karan with 94.9% (yet happy) Madri: Where are my Nakul and Sahadev? (Both of them come out. They have failed). What happened? (Sees their result sheets) Let me ask Drona Sir, how can this happen. Both were taking private tuitions from Kripa Sir. They were guaranteed to pass. (Meantime, the remaining students also come out with their result sheets. There is some chaos, some noise. However, Bhishma Sir enters along with Drona and Kripa Sir, and having seen all of them, the parents and the students gherao them. Kripa sir blows the whistle twice, thrice, and finally the parents become silent.) Bhishm: Good Morning everybody. _mV Xodmo^d! {nVXodmo^d !! I would like to make an important announcement .

(Entry of TV reporters from different channels. They start taking positions with their cameras) Bhishm: (Gets angry and perplexed) Stop it, please stop it! How dare you enter the school premises? Kripa: Sir, I have invited them the TV, the Press, the media. This is an important announcement. The Honble Minister has agreed to come here to announce the new education policy. So .. (Volunteers arrange the chairs, the bouquets etc. Krishna the Education Minister - enters. He is escorted by Kripa Sir and taken to his seat. Cameras . click click) Krishna: Good morning. I know, all of you are eager to know about the new policy. We are entering a new era and the whole world is eager to know about this experiment. So, let me explain our new policy would be. From the next academic year, students will not be allotted any marks, percentages for any papers/subjects. Hereafter, there will be no cut-throat competition, no rat-race; as children are subjected to peer pressure and mentally taxed. I am also aware that many students have committed suicide, which is one of the most shameful acts of the present day system. Hence, moving forward, the children will only be given Grades. While examinations will be held and marks allotted; but they will neither be disclosed to the students nor to the parents. The marks will only be known to us and that too for the improvement of the students in the subsequent years. The pattern of marks will also change. Until now, the written test comprised 80marks and Orals of 20. From the next academic year onwards, the written test will comprise 20marks and projects, reports, practical, and day-to-day observation will carry 80marks. Most importantly, hereafter no student will be failed up to Standard VIII. It will be the responsibility of the teachers to ensure that the student studies properly, he is tested, re-tested, and given all help during his examinations. Sir, I have a question!

TV:

Krishna : Let me finish first. You are always in a hurry. This is an historic policy decision and you cant rush like this. TV Sir, our channel is very popular and fastest. I am from RAP. Kripa: Sir, theirs is a very popular channel .. amn MZb RAP .. TV Yes Sir, it is RAP, amBH$m nhmS> Bhishm: (Tells Krishna that he will answer the Media) OK, OK. But lets finish. The objective behind this policy is very novel. Once the fear and anxiety about scoring the maximum marks disappears from the minds of these little children, they will be able to give their best. They can pursue the subject of their choice to the maximum. However, a

lot depends on the joint efforts by the teachers, parents and students. Thank you. Any questions? TV: (The RAP channelwalla comes in front of the audience and starts giving the breaking news from his mobile) Hello, Hello. From next year, there wont be any exams. No Exams, No Results, every student will pass, yes, pass until Standard VIII! Great! A path breaking decision! Tension Khallas! (He dances, shouts, as if he has achieved something). (Again on phone)This news must be announced FIRST from our RAP channel exclusively! Dron: (Upset with RAP) Oh RAP man. Whats the great hurry? Is this the way of announcing such important news? You first need to understand the policy. TV: No; thats not our business. We are only keen on Breaking the news! INTERVAL

ACT II (Very dim light. A mother is trying to wake up her child. The child is reluctant to wake up. Care should be taken that the faces of mother and son cant be seen in the dim light. ) Mom: Wake up my child, wake up. Today is the first day of your school. You must go to school on time. Boy: No, mom, I dont want to go to school. Mom: Why dear. Whats wrong? Boy: Mom, you dont know. Not a single teacher in the school likes me! Mom: So what, my child; you still have to go. Boy: No mom, believe me, not a single student also likes me! Mom: Its OK dear. You will have to go .. after all, you are the Principal of the school ! (Laughter Blackout Lights. The backdrop shows a classroom. Its the first day of the school. All the students enter the class, except Nakul & Sahadev. Enter, Kripa Sir. Good Morning teacher etc) Kripa: Where are Nakul & Sahadev? Bring them from the lower class here. The new policy is already implemented. So, they have been promoted! (Bhima brings both Nakul & Sahadev and the Pandavas show their happiness now being together) Kripa: Thats good. Come on boys. Lets now begin with some project work. You can pick the subject of your choice. You see, this is the biggest advantage of the new policy. You can independently think about it. If you need any help, we are here to help. So form your group and decide. Dharm: Sir, we will be doing a project called Kripa: _`g^m? Whats that? Bhim: Sir, its like a cinema set. Just, Bhool Bhullaiyya! Kripa: Oh, thats good. You are really very futuristic. I am so glad! Duryo: Kripa: Sir, we will do the project on bmjmJh Whats that?

_`g^m!

Dussa: Thats our secret project. Its a wonderful house, almost like a Palace but made of bmI and can be burnt to ashes in just a few seconds. Kripa: (Showing surprise) But why? Will it be useful or is only of academic interest. Anyways, please remember, your projects should be complimentary and not competitive. OK? So, you may proceed now. Form your group and select a team leader. I wish you The Best!

(Both groups begin their deliberations and.. Black out.) (Lights; enter the duo) Boy: Both the groups begin their projects enthusiastically. However, realizing that there wont be any examination as such, the Duryodhans group took it easy. Girl: They were joined by Shakuni, their senior who had failed for 4 years and was now, as per the new policy, pushed to Std VIII. Boy : Under the guise of completing their project, this group of four, Duryodhan, Dussasan, Karan and Shakuni are now at a Dance Bar, enjoying the whole night. Backdrop of a Dance Bar) (A dance begins . Some item song like Chickney Chameli etc. When the dance ends ..) Shakuni: So, friends, enjoyed? I am sure you all enjoyed to the maximum. Hey, this is life. practical life. What we learn outside of school is real education . (He is now fully drunk) Duryo: (He is also drunk). We did not realize how fast the years had passed. Our progress was very fast. Fifth, Sixth, Seventh .. and now Eighth ! Dussa: (Pointing to his glass of whisky) . But tell me when should I stop? Shaku: It is simple, yaar. See, look there. Can you see four people sitting there drinking? Can you see them? Those 4? OK? So, when you will see double, i.e. eight, instead of four you should stop. And thats an indication that you are up the gum tree! Tight!! Dussa: (Observing intently in that direction), but Shaku, there are only two people, there! Duryo: I think Shaku himself is tight! Come on boys, tomorrow is our exam. Karan: Not tomorrow.. today! Take a look at your watch. We have spent the whole night here! Shaku: Dont worry my boys. I will help you. Dussa: How? Shaku: Aarey, Main hoon naa? Why are you worried? Karan: OK baba, but give us the solution. Shaku: Its simple. Tomorrow, before the exam begins, all of you; go to Bhishm Sir and tell him. We were outdoors yesterday completing our project and while returning, we had a tyre burst. We spent the entire night trying to fix it.and havent even had a cats nap. So, please do not take our exam today. Give us some more time.he is bound to give us more time. Thats the rule under the new policy. Yes, in some schools, the teachers are even writing the answer sheets for the students. New Policy . Great! So, dont worry. Ask for a weeks time and . study hard. I am sure, you will pass. See, its as simple as ABC!

(Blackout Lights / Next Day / Backdrop of Classroom / Only these 4 students in the class Duryo, Dussa, Shakuni and Karan. Drona Sir enters. He will conduct the exam. He makes them sit in four corners of the room facing the walls so that they cant see each other and hands over the question paper to them) Drona: Boys, The question paper is very simple. Just two questions First; what is your name (2 Marks) and second; while returning from your project that night, which tyre burst? 98 Marks! Thats all! Dont try to look at each other. If you do that, I will fail all of you! (All of them begin making noise, saying This is clear injustice! This is not an examination, but cheating! The noise level increases; and Bhishma Sir who was watching from outside, now enters the classroom. Other students have also gathered in the wings and are eagerly watching the scene.) Bhishm: Silence ! I have been watching all of you. You have been pampered a lot! If you continue shouting like this, I may pass you in this exam, but what next? Ninth, Tenth, HSC, CET, VSAT, GMat, and most importantly, the exam of life! And your own future! The success of any scheme, policy, venture, depends on working together to achieve that goal as a committed team. (looking at other students in the wings) Please come in and join us. (looking at them) No doubt, you did well; but .you also did few wrongs, may be lesser than these guys. For that matter, let me confess, even we, the teachers Kripa Sir, Drona Sir, and me - also had our follies. (Krishna enters from the background and indicates to Bhishma that he should restrain from blaming himself in front of students. Saluting him, Bhishma however continues) Sir, let me confess. We also had our follies, our weaknesses. A single vice destroys a hundred virtues! A single wrong nullifies a hundred rights. My dear students, we are now at the fag-end of our career and can only repent for our misdeeds. But my children, you still have time to improve. Be wise. Study sincerely and be honest. You know, a cat has 9 lives, and so have you. make the best use of your time. Time and tide waits for no one! You cant touch the same water twice! (Krishna comes forward, pats on the back of Bihshm Sir who has become very emotional) Krish: I believe, as children we were all innocent. However, the passage of time turned us into what we are today. But, if we respect and uphold our values, we will surely succeed. This new policy is only to test your conscience. Freedom without restraint can ruin us. A river is respected only until it flows within its boundaries. Friends (pauses) .. see, I called you Friends! You owe a lot to your parents who give into your every demand. Let me share an interesting tale with you An Arab millionaire sent his child to India as he believed that the education in India is the best in the world. Soon, the son sent him an e-mail saying that he feels embarrassed to

come to school in his Mercedes, because all his friends, the other students, travel to the school by train. Arabs being Arabs, do you know what was the Arabs response? Ok Son, you too can have a train! Tell me how much money I should send? (Laughter). On a serious note, parents provide their children with everything, even at the cost of depriving themselves of their needs. Parents work so that they can fulfill all your demands; so you owe a lot to them. Society too gives without asking. And finally, it is the Nation! We all expect you to be responsible citizens of this great nation India. Realize the intention behind each decision, policy, and legislation! You are best judge!. You yourselves are the examiners. So, follow your conscience! One thing is certain; God helps those who help themselves! All the best! (Krishna comes forward. All students hold hands, form a row, and bow down) (Curtain Call)
