Oil Flushing for Turbine Lube Oil System

Lube oil flushing objective To flush the entire Turbine lube oil system and Jacking oil system with recommended oil to remove the mechanical impurities entrapped in the supply and return line.

Arrangement for lube oil system Lube oil system complete Temporary piping cleaned and installed Thermal shock scheme ready Clean oil tank and Dirty oil tank available Fire fighting system

Main Oil Tank MOP suction & discharge are looped(looping as per site condition) Bearing pedestals, MOT & strainer are cleaned manually and inspected Vapour extraction Fans are available and line valves are kept open AOP, JOP and Oil Centrifuge is available MOT and its level indicator

Lube Oil system Oil throttles for injectors are replaced with adaptors Lube oil supply and return line are looped at individual bearing locations Thrust bearing pads removed Coolers oil line looped Duplex filter elements are removed MOP supply and discharge lines are looped

Temperature indicators before and after cooler are installed Installation of fine mess in oil supply line at respective bearing pedestals in second stage of flushing

Jacking Oil system arrangement A loop line from AOP discharge header to JOP discharge line with an isolating valve and JOP disconnected Jacking oil supply header looped with Lube oil return header Jacking oil line to bearings disconnected and kept open to drain inside bearing pedestals for second stage flushing All NRVs in the pump discharge and supply line are removed Jacking oil pressure regulating valve removal and adaptor installed

Oil filling Method Oil filled into Main Oil tank through centrifuge

Lube Oil system flushing Stage I

Start EOP for line filling and venting of entrapped air and leakages identification AOP in service Oil centrifuge in service Inspect the MOT strainer for every one hour for first day of flushing and there after twice in a day After 2-3 days, coolers can be normalized Heat the oil up to 70 deg.C with thermal shock arrangement Bring down the Oil temperature to 35 40 deg.C after the cooler Repeat the thermal shocks with intermittent rapping of oil lines Collect the oil sample at Oil Centrifuge inlet and check for Mechanical Impurities and Moisture If the analysis is as per OEM, close the supply and drain header loop valve

Stage II

Throttles are kept wide open to ensure maximum flow in the return lines Ensure that AOP should not get overloaded Start flushing & thermal shocks Do flushing for turning gear line twice in a day Collect the oil sample at Centrifuge inlet & check for mechanical impurities & moisture

Final stage of Oil flushing

Put all the circuits in line for flushing and continue thermal shocks If MOT strainer remains clean for 24hours, stop flushing and introduce duplex filters Continue flushing till the oil analysis value are within limits Clean duplex filters regularly

Oil Flushing Completion Mechanical impurities <100ppm Moisture content<100ppm Basket strainer remain clean even after 24hours Duplex filter DP alarm comes every after 12 hours

Note: JOP oil flushing is similar to Lube Oil flushing
