The fuel is injected at a high pressure through injectors directly into the respective combustion chamber. The combustion air which has been compressed by the turbocharger and intermediately cooled in the intercooler reaches the combustion chamber through a specially shaped inlet swirl port. This swirl port, together with the combustion chamber ( with its bowl positioned in the piston crown) has a major influence on the entire combustion cycle of the engine.
