Tech, MBA Mobile-9937011676 Introduction Strategic management is a multi-disciplinary, comprehensive and integrated course. In the 21st century, organizations are facing exciting and dynamic challenges. In the globalised business, companies require strategic thinking and only by evolving good corporate strategies they can become strategically competitive. Strategy helps corporate to keep pace with changing environs, provide better understanding of external environment, and minimizes competitive disadvantages by forcing to think clearly about mission, vision and objectives of the enterprise. Course Objective1) To provide a conceptual view and a comprehensive insight into the basics of corporate strategy and its policy implications. 2) To ascertain why strategic planning and control is necessary. 3) To understand how strategy helps corporate to keep pace with changing environs. 4) The broad objective is to provide the management students with the requisite practical orientation and exposure for understanding the real world business situation.

Course Outline STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT 1-An Overview of Strategic management & Business Policy (4 Sessions) The concept of strategy, Levels at which strategy operates, The genesis of strategic management, Vision & mission statement of a company. Strategic intent, Schools of thoughts on strategy formation, strategic decision making, Strategic management process. Case study Archies vs Vintage-Are we in the business of greetings. 2- Environmental Appraisal (4 Sessions) Concept of Environment, Environmental factors, Internal and External environment, SWOT Analysis (SAP & ETOP Analysis), Environmental Scanning, Methods and techniques of scanning Case study - Environmental issues in the food processing Industries. NCR corporation India to be a test bed for global roll out.

3- Competitive Analysis ( 4 Sessions) Concept and types of competition, hyper competition Analysis for developing competitive strategy-Porters five forces model, McKinsey 7-s framework, Key factors for success. Competitive Strategy-Generic Strategies by Porter, Value chain analysis Case study- Maruti Udyog ltd-The competition ahead. Gati Ltd- At the threshold of a big leap. 4- Strategic analysis and choice (3 Sessions) Concept of Strategic analysis. Business Portfolio Analysis- BCG Matrix.GE nine cell Matrix. Case Study- Strategic Choice for Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Strategic Alternatives (3 Sessions) Stability Strategy, Growth Strategy, Retrenchment Strategy ,Turnaround Strategy, Divestment. Case Study- Ceat back on Track (Turnaround strategy) 5- Mergers and Acquisitions ( 2 sessions) Concept, Types of M & A, Corporate growth strategy, Mergers motive, screening and valuation process.
