The Daewoo Matiz is a city car produced by the South Korean automaker GM Daewoo that
has been marketed worldwide since 1998. Available solely as a five-door hatchback with two engine
configurations, Matiz was originally designed by Italdesign Giugiaro and has been. The car started
production in 1998 with the model M100. The exterior design is based on the Lucciola concept by
Giorgetto Giugiaro, rejected by Fiat S.p.A. The 0.8L engine and the transmission were carryovers

Why Matiz failed?

Matiz failed due to the bankruptcy of Daewoo which
resulted in bad A.S.S. It wasnt matiz that failed... But the
company daewoo did... When the car was launched it was
overpriced by Daewoo. Remember how Cielo was
overpriced, and overnight Daewoo brought down the price
by over a lac .This created very bad impression on
public.Matiz price was later on corrected and the sales gap
to Santro was coming down fast, and when it was just abt
to overtake, Daewoo collapsed.Matiz.People use to say
they give less average.Was not much peppy or powerful for
highways (Acceptable performance for its class though). The problem was the Matiz' positioning.
They had launched ONLY a fully loaded variant at 4.xx lacs in mumbai. Compare that to the Santro
and Zen, which had fully loaded as well as mid-range and basic versions. The second was Hyundais
determination and Daewoos lack of it.Another reason might be that many people didn't like its cute
frog like look! Engine gets heated up.

It may well still run ok, but if for instance the light is on because of an emmisions problem,
and the car is using too much fuel, the cat converter could suffer in the long term.A head gasket is
the coupler between the engine block and cylinder head in an internal combustion engine.,
particularly the cooling system, and is not suited to life in a rural area or roads with potholes, but the
0.8 litre engine has plenty of character, if short of power. Handling is good, but crosswinds are a
problem on highways. In Europe, Daewoo has now become Chevrolet. its build quality is poor. Its
dashboard looks nice but its door handles and inside door covers are very plasticy and you feel you
will break it if you force it to much. The car was never properly customised for India - faulty fuel

produces 52bhp with a torque of 7.3kg-m. It has a Multi-Point Fuel Injection system. With a seating
capacity of upto five people and five doors, it sure is a car to be in.

The Matiz is tiny, but not as tiny inside as some city cars, and comes with five doors rather
than the more common three.In 2000 alone, the Matiz notched up Best Small Car in Auto Express
Used Car Awards, Best Value Car in Top Gear Magazine and Best Small Car on BBC2’s Top Gear.
The rear legroom was better than those times small cars (specially Santro, even today). Though the
car looks small, the space and comfort inside is amazing for a car in this segment.
It is a bit sluggish with AC on.

Conclusion

When the matiz car was introduced(1998) in the market that time Santro,Hyundai,Zen was
the competitor of the matiz car. As compare with other company cars, matiz car had higher range
(price) than other competitor cars in the market.The price of matiz car was 10,5000 and the price of
the competitor was in between 5 to 8 lac. The quality of matiz car is poor as compare to the other
cars. The look of the matiz car also not accepted by the people. The size of the matiz car is also
smaller than other cars, and it’s had a lot of problem in cooling system and suspension was the most
difficult to repair, engine of car is also not better then other cars. Average of the car is very low as
compare to the competitor cars.

market and the company stopped the manufacturing products.
