FOOD Depending on your party (style, purpose or even location) the food must have elements of 'tropicalness'; Just a bowl of fruit salad won't give the complete Hawaiian theme you need to call it an Hawaiian Party! Today's Hawaiian Culture is composed of a number of different ethnic groups, from Native Hawaiians, to Samoans, Tongans, Chinese, Japanese, Portugese, Haole, and so forth. This is reflected in the variety and style of food now available. Labelling the different dishes with perhaps a small written explanation of what the dishes are and why it is presented would go a long way in getting your guests to understand why you have chosen that dish or even appreciate your overall thinking, planning and execution. Food items can be divided into:

Hors D'ouvres / Appitizers (Pupus in Hawaiian) or nibbles Main courses o Meat o Vegetable

Seafood Side dishes, salads Desserts (Shave Ice desserts)

DRINKS Drinks can be divided into alcoholic and non-alcoholic.Serving the right types of drink for your guests is highly important (infact critical!). For adult parties, always have both types. DECORATION Theming the party not only with large items but with smaller things will make it more fun and authentic. Larger items could include:

Surf boards Hawaiian lanterns / lights Beach towels and chairs Cardboard cutouts and stand-ins Inflatable palm trees Tropical foliage Backdrops / wall hangings Hawaiian shirts Luau Door fringes Large (rafia) table umbrellas Table centre pieces Rafia table skirtings Hibiscus table centre pieces

Smaller items could include:
