Welcome Selamat Datang

Foreword from the IGU President

MALAYSIA is proud and honoured to host the 25th World Gas Conference in Kuala Lumpur.
As the Malaysian Presidency of the International Gas Union (IGU) enters into the mid-term, efforts towards organising the worlds biggest gas event is on track and we look forward to welcome you to this beautiful country and to experience its rich social fabric and diverse cultural heritage. The WGC2012 Concept Village, the venue of the event in the heart of the city, will be a model of integrated efficiency where all participants and visitors alike will be assured of a pleasant and seamless event experience. Todays growing demand for safer, more efficient and even more cost effective energy resources is greater than ever and will continue to expand along with the wave of economic progress and population growth. Rising energy requirements amidst growing concerns over climate change clearly favours natural gas as a fuel of choice, but this needs to be sustained through innovation, technology, competent human capital and mutually consistent policies that reflect the interests of all stakeholders. is no longer an issue with the abundance of both conventional and non-conventional gas and globalisation of the LNG trade. Yet, natural gas faces challenges and obstacles in positioning itself as a key energy source, particularly in the policy arena. As the spokesperson for the gas industry, IGU has initiated efforts towards advocating for natural gas, so that it will regain its appropriate policy voice, consistent with its merits and potential. The World Gas Conference seeks to address the seismic shifts and developments in the energy sector, in particular the gas industry. The breadth of economic, energy security and climate change challenges we face today require unprecedented cooperation and collaboration across all stakeholders. We invite you to be among the leaders, experts and committed individuals to discuss and shape the future of the gas industry. With the continuous support of IGU and its fraternity, we are committed to continue the standards of excellence as set by past presidencies and to steer IGU towards greater heights with the successful organisation of the 25th World Gas Conference.
