Aim of the Project

As a part of curriculum of geography and to be familiar with the real depth and wide span of the industry. This project is my geography project where I have to do the following:-To find out in detail how a textile mill works. -How it performs and does its functions. -To find out the types of cloth its manufactures or processes and how the work is done. There are many other things to be found such as what are the competitions, what are the problems faced by the industry, what are the steps to completing the process. This is also to go to the industry and find it out by asking the manager for related information.

Introduction
The textile industry have been in existence since 4000BC in the indus valley civilization. They were the first to have developed and processed cotton.

Acknowledgement
There were obviously people who helped me and some of them who I really would like to thank are my geography teacher to give me this opportunity to do this research on a textile industry and learn more about it and my father to help me get the information and my aunt to help me decorate and arranged the information in the project.

Location
Choosing the location of the industry is very important as there are some conditions unsuitable for work. The diamond textile mills exact location is 210, Nikol Road, Bapu Nagar, Ahmedabad, Gujarat 382352, India. This industry, diamond textile mills, is located in the wall city of Ahmedabad, which lies on the eastern bank of the Sabarmati River. Since the time of inception DTM has covered more than 3 lakh square feet of land space under its premises and more than 1.8 lakh square feet of build up area for its functioning. This location helps the industry in getting labour cheap and easy. Raw material is easily available in this area and transportation is also easy. Some government facilities are also available. Electricity is also provided at cheap rates in this area. The reasons for textile mills being in ahmedabad are that: Availability of raw material Transport and export facility Labour and large market Favourable climate Cheap sources of power Finance

Climate
The climate of Ahmedabad is hot semi-arid climate. The climate is humid. This kind of climate best suits the textile industries since cotton work can only be done in humid

conditions, though not very dry. The climate of Ahmedabad doesnt really affect the industry but few problems because of rainfall or thunder storm can occur.

Conclusion
Experience is the best teacher.
After my visit to the diamond textiles mills I felt good that I had the opportunity to learn something about an industry. This industry already being so good and been working from three and a half decades sees it itself to develop as a 'ONE STOP SHOP', for all fabrics that our customers need from any part of he world. Their goal is set to develop as one of the renowned industry in the textile world with a wide range of fabrics that they can manufacture in order to serve their customers. They also look forward to increase in the competitive market and the awareness of their customers; they are improving on each step that they lay ahead. Their goal besides business is to make healthy and grateful relationships with our vendors and partners and to work with high trust and integrity.

It is only the training through which we know that an industry is and how it works.

MANUFACURING PROCESS OF DYING AND PRINTING

1. Desizing & Scouring:Desizing is the first wet operation performed on woven greige fabric. This process removes the sizing compound applied to the slashing operation. It consists of the size with enzyme-bacterial Anilozymaze and thoroughly washing the fabric. enzymes desize the starch and decompose to a water-soluble from like Glucose. Scouring is employed to remove natural and acquired impurities like wax, pectin and alcohol. Acquired impurities during processes such as size, dirt, and oil. These impurities are removed from the fabric by hot alkaline solution of NaOH. This accomplished by jigar washing, where desized cotton fabric is loaded into a large cylindrical pressure vessel. The pH of solution is about 10 to 12, temp. is around 130 0C and pressure is 130 psi. 2. MERCERISING:Mercerization increases the tensile strength, luster. Shine, dye affinity, and abrasion resistance of cotton. This is usually performed after scoring of fabric. At room temperature the NaOH solution of 25 % strength, is impregnated with fabric for desired contact period is one minute. As the alkali solution absorbed the cotton starts swelling. The caustic is thoroughly removed by washing and also with aid of Sulphuric acid. The caustic is recovered and used in the scouring or mercerization. 3. BLEACHING: It is the finishing process and used to whiten the fabric. In addition to removing the color, beaching can also dissolve sizing, natural impurities like wax, pectin and foregine particles. Bleaching of ultra white quality fabric is done with Hydrogen peroxide (H2O 2 ). 4. PRINTING: Printing of cloth is different than dyeing. In printing, color is applied to specific area of cloth to achieve planned design. The colour on the Ager machine and the fabrics is washed in washer. After passing through hydro extractors the cloth is passed through stantor machine for width setting and finishing. 5. DYEING: Dyeing is one of the most complex operation and carried out on either jiggar or jet. It is performed for aesthetic reasons. The funcution of dyeing is to anchor dyestuff molecules to textile fibers. 6. FINISHING: The fabric is passed through the finishing solution, which contains MBX, Aminosilicon, and tinople. Then it is passed through hot air Stantor machine. Thus

the finished fabric which meets with the customers requirement, sent to the packing.

Problems faced by the mill

There are some problems that are faced by a process house. They are: -inadequate supply of raw material -fluctuations in the production of raw material -poor quality of raw material -increase cost of raw material versus the productivity and utilization -obsolete machinery and need for modernization -inadequate and failing supply of power (coal and electricity) -high competition in the local market -rivalry: strikes, lock-out, etc -substitute for raw material as synthetic material There are no competitions as such because there is a lot of demand of textile and cloth in the world and the global market. So, the Diamond Textile Mills doesnt have any problem in selling 99% of its processed goods.
