PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP

We must no longer be children, tossed to and fro and blown about by every wind of doctrine, by peoples trickery, by their craftiness in deceitful scheming. - Ephesians 4:14 (NRSV) Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. - John 6:35 (NRSV)

In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit, we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks and to live holy and joyful lives, even as we watch for Gods new heaven and new earth, praying, Come, Lord Jesus! With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Amen. - The Book of Confessions, A Brief Statement of Faith, 10.4, 5, 6

As one body of Christ, composed of diverse individuals bound together by the Holy Spirit: We will share the Gospel in an intellectually rigorous manner that does not belittle doubt yet calls all to acknowledge their need for Gods grace offered through Jesus Christ. We will endeavor to fulfill Christs commandment to go and make disciples of all nations. from our 2012 Vision Statement

CALL TO WORSHIP Leader: People: Leader: People:

Based on Psalm 27; John 4:23

Let us worship God, our light and our salvation. The Lord is the stronghold of our lives. We desire to live in Gods house and to seek God in his holy temple. We have come with shouts of joy, to sing and to make music to the Lord. Leader: Let us worship God in spirit and in truth. All: Teach us your ways and make straight our paths in this hour of worship and always. HYMN 260 (Blue Hymnal) A Mighty Fortress Is Our God Ein Feste Burg

PRAYER OF CONFESSION Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD. Lord, hear my voice! Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications! If you, O LORD, should mark iniquities, Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with you, so that you may be revered. I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch for the morning, more than those who watch for the morning. O Israel, hope in the LORD! For with the LORD there is steadfast love, and with him is great power to redeem. It is he who will redeem Israel from all its iniquities.
Psalm 130 (NRSV)

PRESENTATION OF TITHES, OFFERINGS, AND GIFTS

SOLO

Lisa Edwards-Burrs, soprano I made of my heart a temple, But the Saviour came not in, For its aisles were cloyed with malice, And its bells were choked with sin. And its air was heavy with incense, And its priests were sandal-shod, I made of my heart a temple, But its light revealed no God! I made of my heart a stable, And the Saviour came and smiled, Where the cattle of human kindness Browsed in the evening mild, And its air was pure and pungent, With grass of the rain-swept sod, I made of my heart a stable, And sheltered the Living God!

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Small Groups Are Coming to Grace Covenant!

We already have small groups in various forms, with Presbyterian Women circles, the Community Group, a prayer group, etc., and they are doing well. However, this fall we're starting an additional program with new groups. These groups will feature Bible study, sharing blessings and concerns, praying for one another, and more. We will have more meetings between now and September for planning and further orientation. If you have any questions, please contact Wayne Casey at 222-3468 or email him at caseywt1@verizon.net.

Volunteers should arrive at 9:30 a.m. to lead Sunday School and remain to assist the paid workers with the worship hour (until 12:15 p.m.). Only one date remains: September 2; will you help? Please contact Carson Price if available at 928-4875, or email to chefcarson@alacarson.com.

PNC Update
The PNC (Pastor Nominating Committee) is pleased to report that our Church Information Form (CIF) has attracted several Pastor Information Forms (PIFs) from interested pastors. In the coming months, the PNC will continue to receive and review applications from potential candidates. The PNC also encourages the congregation to prayerfully consider whether they know of any pastors who would be a good fit at Grace Covenant. Personal referrals can be an important part of the search process in addition to receiving PIFs from our posted CIF. Please continue to pray for patience and wisdom in the search for Grace Covenants next pastor.
