laptop is fully powered do wn, and no peripheral devices are connected.* 1. Remove Keyboard There are two screws on the underside of the laptop marked KBD. Remove these. Turn the laptop back over and open the lid. If you look down between the keyboard an d the bezel (the laptop casing), you should see clips placed along at intervals. Slide a credit card or similar down between the two, and pry the keyboard up. Y ou should hear click sounds as each clip is released. Turn the keyboard over, and find the connecter where the ribbon joins the comput er. Pull on the tabs each side of the connecter to release the ribbon cable. The keyboard is now removed. 2. Remove Battery Close the lid and turn the laptop over. At the far end near the hinge, there are two spring released clips, slide each one in the direction the arrow is pointin g to release the battery. The battery will now slide out. 3. Remove RAM Find the cover labelled memory. There should be one screw located here. Remove it. The cover should now slide off. To remove the RAM you pull the two metal cli ps away from the RAM, and it should spring up. Remove the top chip first, and th en repeat for the bottom chip.
4. Remove HDD On the right-hand side on the edge furthest from the screen, there is a HDD cove r. On the cover there are two screws. Once removed, the cover will slide off awa y from the screen. To remove the HDD, lift it by the tab until it is higher than the case, and pull away from the connections to disconnect. 5. Remove ODD Find the screw labelled with ODD. Once removed, you can simply remove the ODD by p ulling it out away from the laptop. 6. Remove Casing First, remove the mouse pad connection (on the motherboard similarly to removing the keyboard) and the speaker connection (also similarly to the keyboard). Thi s should be done through the holes left by removing the keyboard. To dismantle the casing, remove all fourteen unmarked screws on the underside of the laptop. The only screws that should be left are the two hinge screws (marke d with H). There are also two sets of two smaller screws to be removed, one set wh ere the battery was, and the other where the ODD was. Note
7. Removing Motherboard connections Before we can remove the motherboard, it must be disconnected. All the connectio ns are disconnected in a similar fashion to the previous (keyboard, mouse and sp eakers). There should be four connectors, labelled: LCD, DC IN, CAMERA and ODD. Also, on the WLAN chip, there is a black and a white wire attached. Remember the black wire is on the bottom. 8. Removing motherboard On the motherboard, there are three screws that need to be taken out to remove i t from the casing. These screws should be surrounded by a white circle/semicircl e. When these have been removed, it should just lift out.
9. Removing the Fan Turn over the motherboard. The fan should have two screws, one either side. Ther e is also a connector that needs to be removed (again like the keyboard connecto r). After the screws and connector is remove,d it should just lift off. 10. Removing the Heat Sink On the heat sink, there are 6 sprung screws. Undo these screws until the come aw ay from the motherboard. You do not need to remove them fully. The heat sink wil l just lift off.
