BASIC FIRE FIGHTING TRAINING

COURSE OBJECTIVES :
To provide participants with knowledge of understanding fire behaviour, fire prevention, causes of fire and provide skill that necessary to perform fire extinguisher operation during normal or in emergency situation so that the risk could be minimized.

COMPETENCIES DEVELOPED : A. Demonstrating their understanding of :

1. Fire origin and behaviour 2. Fire Safety Precaution and Prevention 3. Fire Extinguisher types, usage and maintenance

B. Demonstrating their ability in :

1. Safety use of FIREX (Fire Extinguisher) during normal and emergency situation. 2. Applying knowledge, skills and attitudes having been trained at their workplace.

PRE-REQUISITE :
All participants must demonstrate an appropriate level of medical fitness.

PROGRAM CONTENTS :
1. Fire Concept and behaviour Fire chemistry, composition and spread of fire Common cause of fire, Fire tetrahedron Classification of fire and method of extinguishment Effects of heat, smoke and toxic gases during fire 2. Fire Extinguishing agent Use of water, dry chemical, CO2, foam and other agent to extinguish fire 3. Fire prevention and protection Active and passive fire protection Fire safety management Introduction to sprinkler and fire detector

4. Portable Fire Extinguisher (FIREX) Component and types Advantage and failure of FIREX Basic application on using FIREX Hazard and Safety precaution using FIREX FIREX Workplace standard Inspection and maintenance 5. Appropriate action on discovery of a fire Basic Emergency procedures 6. Self rescue technique Consideration of travel in dense smoke condition

IMPLEMENTATION / APPROACHES / PRESENTATION METHOD :

50% of the duration of the training will include classroom theory (4 hours) and 50% of Fire Extinguisher and Fire blanket practice During in the classroom activity, participants will be getting involved in : Lecture using LCD projector and video, Small / main group discussion to explore and recognise some of the problems and possible ways of eliminating or reducing risks.

Extinguishing Class B fires using Dry chemical, CO2, and Foam FIREX Extinguish fire using Fire blanket Correct approach of Fire Specialist Safety precaution
