The foundation stone of our University was laid down by the Former President of India Dr. Zakir Hussain in 1968. This University was accorded the status of "University with Potential for Excellence" - A status conferred by University Grants Commission so far on 9 such Universities in the Country. It has been re accredited by NAAC with Grade A. Madurai Kamaraj University, has 18 Schools comprising 73 Departments. The University has 133 affiliated Colleges (16 Autonomous) including other approved institutions and 5 evening colleges. Madurai Kamaraj University is one of the best educational and research institutions in the country. Today, the institution is recognized as an University of national importance. The cumulative accomplishments of its highly talented and widespread alumni association is responsible for ever growing tradition and reputation.

The department of Computer Centre is one among the excelled departments of this university that offers course on Computer Applications. Ever since on its inception, our department has tapped and utilized all its potentials and has marched steadily towards quality and excellence. Our department has great achievements with a combination of desire, goals, focus, and execution.

Stretch ourselves creatively whenever we can. Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) is one such stretch to provide the channel independent of thinking to discover the goal of promoting successor.

Our academic programme is amongst the best in the country. It provides an optimum mix of theory and practical, with strong bias on industrial applications. In more recent years, introduction of modern computational tools and digital equipment have further improved the programme.

The Unique part of our curriculum is the mainframe training which is directly aided by IBM through IBM University Relations India. We are practically skilled with the z/OS and the basic mainframe concepts.

The laborious online training is provided by our faculty members and IBM team itself. The IBM mainframe training makes the students of MKU unique.

Every year at the end of the training z/OS and DB2 certification exams are conducted by IBM through online which our students actively participate.

The mainframe papers Enterprise computing-I(semester-III)and Enterprise computing-II (semester-IV) mainly focus on the mainframe modules.

The Academic Initiative facilitates to get trained practically on z/OS. Experts from IBM handle sessions for our students both at IBM and also in our university campus.

The most effective teamwork is produced when all the individuals harmonize their contributions and work towards a common goal. Our students are running in teams for the placements activities and divide the tasks as variety of activities like seminars, discussions and multiples the success by understanding, helping and coordinating with each other besides their success and improvement.
