Sheet: Hosea, Part 2 Summer 2012 Bible Study Series: Hosea, Part 2 8/9/2012 Summer Review: One thing that youve learned this summer? Whats something that has challenged you? Notes from our talk: We easily forget what weve learned. Its interesting that Israel pursues the things they can see Hosea Review: What did you talk about? What was confusing? What stood out (why)? Themes in the book of Hosea: Constant Cheating. Yet God never gives up on them. Readings: Hosea 4:1-2; 4:12-13; 6:6; 6:11-7-3; 7:13-16; 8:2-3; 8:14; 12:9-10; 13:4-6, 14:1-4; Talking points: What do these verses say about the relationship between Israel and God? The truth is: this didnt happen, it happens. In the last few readings you see that the theme of Egypt comes back, its because Israels confidence and salvation is rooted in the Exodus story. Who they are as a people, is rooted in what God did for them in Egypt. No other god can deliver them, but its easy for Israel to get wooed by power, fertile lands, and riches. Not very different from us, right? Special reading of 11:1-11 What does this say about God? What does this say about Israel? Do we do the same things? Do we ever forget what God has done? Life Lessons from the life of Hosea, part 2 1. Like Israel, we are easlily wood (meaning won over) and it happens everyday. We need to be aware of what woos us away from our first love. 2. Who we are is rooted in what God has done in us and through us? How did God get the right to rule over our lives? He rescues us from ourselves and calls us his children. What gives your parents the right to speak into your life? They are your parents. Somewhat similar to how God has called us. 3. Lets face it, youre going to mess up, but God wants you to return to the relationship. (14:1-2) Saying sorry is only one half of repentance; the other half is restoring the relationship (6:6). God doesnt give up on you (11:8-9).
