CALL FOR CANDIDATES FOR THE FOURTH ANNUAL CARMIGNAC GESTION PHOTOJOURNALISM AWARD

With this award, the Carmignac Gestion foundation has chosen to support the in-depth work of photojournalists, whose profession is in the grips of a severe financing crisis. Every year, a EUR 50.000 grant is awarded to fund a photo-reportage carried out over a period of several months on a specific, topical subject. The Foundation promotes the award via an exhibition and the publication of a monograph. It also purchases four of the photographs included in the report. True to its humanist approach, the Carmignac Gestion Foundation wishes to use this award to give these key witnesses of todays world the means to go where others will not, and to continue visiting zones that are largely ignored by the mainstream media outside periods of conflict. Epicentres of grievous violence with worldwide repercussions, the selected zones are the scenes of intense human suffering. That is why the topic proposed for the 2012 Carmignac Gestion Photojournalism Award is: Chechnya The panel of judges will meet on 30 October 2012 to select the winner, who will have to submit his or her photo-reportage by 31 March 2013 at the latest.

Application pack (to be submitted in English or French) - Full project presentation text - Between 10 and 20 photographs, with captions, drawn from a single series or from one photo-reportage topic which may or may not relate to the territory in question, in hard copy (individual choice of print and format) or on USB key or CD in high definition - The photographs of the pre-selected candidates will be projected in front of the panel of the independent judges. - A portfolio of 20 photos, with captions, representing the photographers work, in hard copy or in digital format (high definition) - A detailed curriculum vitae (age, personal details: e-mail address (in printed letters), details of training, photo-reportages undertaken, publications and exhibitions) - The enclosed registration form will also be available on-line at www.fondation-carmignac-gestion.com - Incomplete registration packs will not be accepted - The complete registration pack can be sent by e-mail to the following address: ngallon@carmignac.com The jury takes into account the photographic quality of the proposed images as well as the editorial relevance of the project. The application pack will be judged on the following points: - The relevance of the project as well as the originality and the strength of work; - Image processing; - The coherence of the proposed photo-reportage. The written project must present the following points: - Detailed and precise journalistic content; - The development of the topic in images in just a few phrases (colour or black and white, format, technique, digital or photographic film, etc.)

- The mledia, contacts, origin of the project, sources, documentation. It is recommended to write up to 3 pages, or between 500 and 800 words.
