How can I set the right direction for my Iife?

Ih. Dwight L. Moodywas onoeasked by a snippy reporter how he could defend such teaching. His reply? "Sir, the Bible needs no defense. Like a lion, it needgonly to be releasedfrom its @ge.' You have spent the year releasing the truths of God'sWor4 and He has promised that it will not retura to Him void but will accomplishHis purpces. At the sametime, the Goepelmust reach both head and heart. Althougb the school year is coming to an end, your influence upon your students hasjust begun. In have addition to the Biblical foundation 5rou laid, you have also establisheda personal relationship with each gtudent. Don't let that relationship fade over the summer months. Either by e-mail, note or persond call, try to touch baswith your shrdents throughout srunmer. Enourage them in their personal faith quest duringt.he srunmer months.

The studentswill review the latter part of Bible history in an effort to see"the big picture" as they conclude year'scourse. the ..

For though I am absentin the flesh, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your goodorder and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ. As you therefore have receivedChrist Jesusthe Lord, sowalk in Him. (Colossians 2:5-6)

A Life of Faith

If you've ever assumed that God's work in the world is accomplished primarily by ordained clerry, your teaching ministry this past year should convince you othennise. The students who have sat in your class have been your special "flock" for over nine months. These young people were in your class becauseGod wanted them there. You have been His vessel to communicate His truth (and love) to them.

5) An analogy is drawn between building

a house and building a life of faith. Write each of the three lessons on the board or a transparency. Ask students to explain how failing to pay attention in each of these areaa will afrect the construction of the house, as well as the building of a life of faith. 6) Whether it is the construction of a house or the constrrrction of a life, it all comes down to the str, ength of the foundation. That's the point that Jesug is naking in Matthew 7:?.f27. As a class, review 1 Corinthians 3:1F14. Note how Paul reinforces the words of Jesus found in Matthew 7. 7) Setting the right direction for life should be the oonoern ofevery believer. Show and discuss a transparency of Master 362.1. Just as the gospels provide the foundation for the rest of the New Testament, they provide the Christian with an understanding of the foundation of our faith. That foundation, of course, is Jesus Christ. Using the information provided in the student worktext, discuss how the gospels set the cours of life in the right direction. 2. Remind students that to oometo the end of a yearJong oonrse called FaithQtrcst and to fail to make a personal somrnitrnsat' to grow in faith would be a travesty. Knowledge without commitment is like plowing a field without planfng 8ed-all you get is weeds. Challenge students again toward their own personal queat of faith and a determination to live life fully.

The students will understand the importance of building a life of faith on a proper foundation. 1. Debrief the reading of Week 86 in the worktext. 1) Ask if students have had similar thoughts as Sarah, Ashley and Ginny. What determination have they made? 2) Ask if students have noted the different attitudes of graduates from high school-those who are serious as they focus on the commencement of a life for which they are wholly responsible versus those who seem clueless, even irresponsible. 3) Ginny notes that every person lives a life of faith. Discuss with students what this means. 4) Discuss the statement "Everyone builds life on some foundational values and desires." A philosophy expressed in a recent movie is'You do what you are." Another philosophical underpinning is that "No person acts for long in opposition to his beliefs." Help students relate these ideas so that they understand that life is based on faithstrong core beliefs that lead to action. Those actions, day by day, lead to a life either fulfilled or failed. The time to start is now.
