Session One: Satan and Demonology 4. How to Destroy a Demonic Stronghold. 1. Who is Satan? a. Renounce the lie/sin. b. Tear down the wall of pride through confession. c. Tear down the wall of rebellion through repentance. d. Ask the Lord to restore you and strengthen you. e. Command the strongman (main evil spirit) to leave. f. Take captive your thoughts. g. Break sinful habits through discipline and accountability. b. The King of Tyre. In Ezekiel 28:1-19 the King of Tyre is initially referred to - but then Ezekiel launches into a message concerning the person behind the King of Tyre. c. What is Satan#s origin? i. Satan is a real personality. He is evil personied and characteristics are ascribed to him. Satan has intelligence, knowledge and a will. He also has the ability to appear in physical form (Genesis 3:1; Job 1:8; 2:1-2; Zechariah 3:1; 2 Corinthians 2:11; Matthew 4:6; Revelation 12:12). ii. Satan is a spirit being and was once anointed to serve as a covering cherub in the heavenly sanctuary (Ezekiel 28:14, 16, 18). iii. Satan is a created being (Ezekiel 28:12-15). iv.Satan was called Lucifer - the day star, son of the morning or light bearer (Isaiah 14:12). v. Satan was in Eden (Ezekiel 28:13). vi.Satan was perfect on the day he was created (Ezekiel 28:15). vii.Satan was perfect in beauty - decked in precious stones (Ezekiel 28:12-13; 28:15-21). viii.Satan was created with music in his being - possibly due to his role as heaven#s worship leader (Ezekiel 28:13). d. Why did Satan rebel? i. Satan was lifted up in self-pride (Ezekiel 28:17; Proverbs 16:18; 18:12). ii. Satan exalted himself and came under condemnation (Isaiah 14:13-14; 1 Timothy 3:6). iii. Satan brought his will against God#s will (Isaiah 14:13-15). I will ascend into heaven. I will exalt my throne above the stars of God. I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation. I will ascend above the heights and the clouds. I will be like the Most High. iv.Satan is the original sinner - iniquity (lawlessness) was rst found in him (Ezekiel 28:15-16, 18; 1 John 3:8). The two key scriptures dealing with the origin and fall of Satan are found in Ezekiel 28:1-19 and Isaiah 14:4-23. These passages follow the rule of double reference (or are used as "springboard# prophecies). Biblically a double reference occurs when a passage of scripture is speaking of or to a person but then launches into a reference to another person beyond or behind the original person. The language found in these two passages can not be fully applied to earthy kings - but go beyond them to the king behind them. a. The King of Babylon. In Isaiah 14:4-23 the King of Babylon is initially referred to - but then Isaiah launches into a message concerning the person behind the King of Babylon.

Session Two: Freedom for the Captives. 1. What is possession? Possession implies that something is owned by another, but the Biblical understanding of demon possession is better understood as "to be demonized or inuenced by evil spirits# not necessarily owned by them. The English words for demon possession in the New Testament are translated from; a. Be taken with (!"#$%& [sunecho /soonekho/] Strongs G4912). b. Demonized ('()*+#,-+*() [daimonizomai / daheemonidzomahee/] Strongs G1139) To be under the power of a demon. A better understanding for demon possession would be demon oppression. Evil spirits will work in and through the lives of people to keep them bound in sin and death. These same spirits will use all their abilities to construct strongholds within the lives of the people they torment - in the hope that nothing will be able to dislodge them from their adopted home. 2. Jesus and deliverance. a. Jesus# mandate - to heal the brokenhearted, free the prisoners, restore sight to the blind and deliver the oppressed (Luke 4:16-18; Isaiah 61:1). b. Deliverance was a regular part of Jesus# ministry (Matthew 4:24). c. Jesus used words to cast out evil spirits (Matthew 8:16). d. Jesus spoke with evil spirits and discovered their nature - NOTE this is not required nor encouraged unless the Lord leads you to do likewise (Mark 5:2-16). e. Evil spirits often left people unwillingly and in rebellion (Mark 1:23-27). f. Healing sometimes took place because of deliverance (Matthew 12:22). 3. Personal preparation. a. Know your authority (2 Corinthians 5:21; Acts 19:13-16; Philippians 2:10). b. Cultivate a lifestyle of faith - prayer and fasting (Matthew 17:14-21). c. Minister in the Full Armor of God (Ephesians 6:12-18).
