Upgrading software
You can access the Boot menu or CLI to download system software and Boot ROM images to Flash memory by using XMODEM, TFTP, or FTP. Table 20 Approaches to loading software on the switch Approach
Upgrading at the Boot menu
Section
XMODEM download through the console port TFTP download through an Ethernet port FTP download through an Ethernet port Copying files from a USB flash drive
The system software and Boot ROM images for the HP A5800 and A5820X Switch Series are packaged in a .bin file. You can download this file to upgrade both Boot ROM and system software, or upgrade only Boot ROM. The Boot ROM image in the .bin package file comprises a basic section and an extended section. The basic section is the minimum boot image. The extended section enables the Boot ROM to bootstrap the system and upgrade system software.
Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P. 35
IMPORTANT: When upgrading Boot ROM, upgrade both sections to ensure the functionality of the entire system. NOTE: For the A5800-24G-SFP (1 slot), A5800-24G-SFP TAA (1 slot), A5800AF-48G, A5820AF-24XG, A5820X-24XG-SFP+, and A5820X-24XG-SFP+ TAA switches, HP recommends that you use the management Ethernet port to download image files. This port can work even if all network ports have failed. You download files through the management Ethernet port in the same way as through a common Ethernet network port. This document uses a common Ethernet network port as an example.

Parameters
vpn-instance vpn-instance-name: Specifies the MPLS L3VPN to which the symmetric-passive peer belongs, where vpn-instance-name is a case-sensitive string of 1 to 31 characters. If the symmetric-passive peer is on the public network, do not specify this option. peer-name: Host name of the symmetric-passive peer, a string of 1 to 20 characters. authentication-keyid keyid: Specifies the key ID to be used for sending NTP messages to the peer, where keyid is in the range of 1 to 4294967295. priority: Specifies the peer designated by ip-address or peer-name as the first choice under the same condition. source-interface interface-type interface-number: Specifies the source interface for NTP messages. In an NTP message that the local device sends to its peer, the source IP address is the primary IP address of this interface. interface-type interface-number represents the interface type and number. version number: Specifies the NTP version, where number is in the range of 1 to 4 and defaults to 3.
Description
Use the ntp-service unicast-peer command to designate a symmetric-passive peer for the device. Use the undo ntp-service unicast-peer command to remove the symmetric-passive peer designated for the device. By default, no symmetric-passive peer is designated for the device.

NOTE: To synchronize the PE to a PE or CE in a VPN, provide vpn-instance vpn-instance-name in your command. If you include vpn-instance vpn-instance-name in the undo ntp-service unicast-peer command, the command removes the symmetric-passive peer with the IP address of ip-address in the specified VPN. If you do not include vpn-instance vpn-instance-name in this command, the command removes the symmetric-passive peer with the IP address of ip-address in the public network.
Examples
# Designate the device with the IP address of 10.1.1.1 as the symmetric-passive peer of the device, configure the device to run NTP version 4, and specify the source interface of NTP messages as VLAN-interface 1.
