Labour Deliver for Families and Pensioners

Labour have delivered for families and pensioners living in the Treforest ward That is the message from the Pontypridd South East Branch Labour Partys Secretary Jonathan Bishop. The Assembly elections are a clear choice between driving down pensioner and child poverty under Labour and a Tory-led opposition that have different priorities. Labour in the Assembly have delivered free swimming for pensioners and children, provided the bus passes for those over 60 and provided safe routes to school to improve young peoples safety and health.

Labour Delivering
Through Labours investment there are 63% more businesses today with access to broadband. Labours investment means more and more people are using local bus services, with nearly 10m additional bus journeys being taken every year. Expansion of Welshmedium early years provision with 450 more Welsh medium practitioners working today than in 1999 There are nearly 300 more Community Support Officers in Wales, a figure which will rise to nearly 700 during 2007.

A vote for Plaid is a vote for the Tories

A document published by Labour reveals that since May 2005, Treforest Councillor Geraint Days party Plaid Cymru has voted 407 times with the Tories. Labour condemned the grubby backroom deal between the parties and said it was time the nationalists owned up to their plan for a coalition with the Tories after the Assembly election. In the Life of Ieuan, Labour details nationalist and Tory deals made, amongst other things, to: Block record investment in public services in Assembly budgets Play games with tough new laws to combat crime and anti-social behaviour in two Queens Speech debates Oppose record investment in the NHS capital investment programme Oppose the abolition of the quangos initially supported by Plaid Cymru Hold up the governance of Wales by repeatedly opposing the Assemblys business The document is available on the Internet at the following address: http://www.jonathanbishop.org.uk/election2007/

Labour active in the Treforest ward

Every month Trefforest and Glyntaff have a Partnership and Communities Together (PACT) meeting in which residents of Treforest can raise problems that they are having in the community. Members of the local Labour Party have been active in these meetings raising issues affecting the community, including issues relating to parking and lack of facilities for young people. One positive thing that has come from these meetings that members of Labour are active in is a social enterprise to allow students to contribute to the community by teaching young people about sports and the arts. If you would like to get involved in this project or want to find out when the next PACT meeting is, contact Jonathan Bishop on the number opposite or at the address at the bottom of the other side of this leaflet.

Your Labour Team are here to help

Dear Resident, As you will already know, there will be Assembly elections this May, which will decide who governs Wales. While parties like Plaid Cymru criticise the Assembly for not being a Parliament, the Assembly makes decisions over most aspects of our lives. It is the Assembly that determines the priorities of most public spending in Wales, so your vote on May 3 will be very important in determining the priorities for Wales. The Liberal Democrats would force a failed election method on local government if they got into power and havent ruled out a coalition with Plaid and the Tories. Labour is the only Party in the Assembly that is acting in the interests of the whole of Wales. The independents have offered no real solutions and the opposition parties have failed to support policies designed to make communities like Treforest stronger and safer. Thanks to the Labour Government in Westminster supporting the Assembly Government in Cardiff, the Labour run local authority in Rhondda Cynon Taff has made Treforest cleaner and safer than it was under Plaid Jonathan Bishop Organiser, Trefforest and Glyntaff Labour
