King Henry II and Thomas Becket were great friends.

Later on, their friendship was getting closer, and Henry appoints Becket as Archbishop of Canterbury. Henry : Greetings, my friend Becket. It looks like I have important news for you. Becket: Yes, my King, Henry? Is there anything you would like to tell me? Henry : Indeed. I have been thinking that, you, my dear friend Becket, could be the powerful Archbishop of Canterbury. Imagine it, let us join our forces, and be the best of partners. Becket: It seems like a great idea, my Lord. Henry : Very well, you shall be the next Archbishop of Canterbury!
However, The situation between Henry and Becket did not work out the way the King had hoped. After a few years as Archbishop, Becket seemed to change. They got into many arguments on who controls the church. Henry : (In a serious voice)Although you are Archbishop, it does not mean that you can control the Church thoroughly.

Becket : But I am Archbishop, I have more power in the Church than you, Henry. I am Archbishop, and you do know how important religion is, dont you, Henry? The head of the church is the Pope in Rome, and not the king. Henry : (In anger)How dare you, Becket! After I appointed you as Archbishop? That does NOT mean that you have full potential and power of controlling the Church. I was the one who appointed you, Becket, I was. And without me, you would never be the Archbishop of your dreams, traitor! Becket : But look at the CURRENT condition, Henry. I am now the Archbishop, just below the rank of the Pope in Rome. I certainly DO have that sort of power now. Henry : THATS IT! ( He then walks out of the room.)
Becket seemed to go out of his way to annoy Henry and Henry got so angry that Becket felt he had to escape to France. Henry : Servant, call Archbishop Becket to come to this room, now. Servant: Yes, indeed, my Lord. I will find him and bring him here as soon as possible. (Servant then looks around for Henry but could not find him) Servant: Archbishop Henry is nowhere to be found, my Lord. Henry : Are you sure you searched every part of this building?

Servant: Indeed, my Lord. However, I have heard rumors about Becket fleeing to France to avoid you, my Lord. Henry : HowHow could this be? It must be the quarrel we had that day! Give me paper and ink, and I shall convince him to come back! Servant: Of course, my Lord. Henry : (Writing while saying) My Lord Archbishop, let us return to our old friendship, and help each other as best we can, forgetting our hatred completely. When Becket received the letter, he had second thoughts about escaping. He then accepted King Henrys apologies and returned to England. But after they settled the arguments, he expelled the bishops who supported the King.

Servant : ( Gasping while running to Henry) King Henry! I.I have terrible news for you! Henry : Calm down, servant, and tell me what is it. Servant : (Takes deep breath) Its Becket! He expelled all of the Bishops who supported you, my Lord. Henry : (Furious) WHAT! Is there no one who will rid me of this troublesome priest? Four knights heard the news and decided to kill Becket for Henry. They sailed for England and arrived in Canterbury on the afternoon of 29 December 1170. Knight 1 : (Stabs him and say) Fly, you are a dead man!(The knights tried to drag him back of the Church but the monks stopped him.) (As he knelt down stretching his hand to God, Knight 1 then stroke him in the head again. The knighs also killed all the monks who tried to stopped them.) Knight 1 : Die, foolish priest! (All the knights stabbed and slashed him with their swords and axes. Becket didnt try to avoid or parry the blows and passed away.) THE END
