UCC Happenings
Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, August 15 Wednesday, August 15, is a Holy Day of Obligation for the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Mass will be offered on Tuesday, August 14, at 6 p.m. at St. Austin. Mass will be offered on Wednesday at 8 a.m., 10 a.m., and 6 p.m. at St. Austin. Mass will be observed at the UCC at 12:05 p.m. UCC Closed, August 14 The UCC will be closed on Tuesday, August 14, for a staff retreat day. It will be open only for a 12:05pm Communion Service. Congratulations! Congratulations to Aissa Olivarez and Victor Garcia who were married at the UCC on August 5th. We wish you a blessed life together! Religious Education at the UCC Do you love children? Do you enjoy teaching others about Jesus and our Catholic faith? If yes to ether of these, then you should check out the RE program here at the UCC! We are always looking for volunteers to hang out with the children after the 9am Mass and teach them about our faith. If you are interested in this, please contact Julie Ulrich at utulrichs@yahoo.com. Fr. Bob Scotts Memorial Mass, August 16 A memorial Mass for Fr. Bob Scott will be held on Thursday, August 16th, at 7pm. It will take place at the University Catholic Center and will be followed by a reception. All are welcome to attend. Following this Mass, we will have a reception, of which we will need your help in coordinating. We need people to set up before, serve during, and clean up after the reception. If you would like to sign up for any of these, please check out the sign up sheet at the front desk, or go online to http://utcath.us/7k Adult Confirmation, classes begin September 5 In partnership with St. Austin Parish, a process to prepare adults for the sacrament of Confirmation will begin on Wednesday, September 5th, 7:30-9 p.m. in Newman Hall at 2026 Guadalupe corner of Guadalupe and W.21st St., across from Dobie. The rite of Confirmation will be celebrated by Bishop Vasquez at a diocesanwide Mass on Saturday, Dec. 1. There is no registration required. Paulist Associates Meetings All are welcome to join the Paulist Associates as we study and reflect on the lives of the Paulist Fathers' Patron saints. We meet on the second Monday of each month at 7 pm in Paulist Hall at St. Austin church. This year, we will be studying St. Mary Magdalene, St. Patrick, St. Philip Neri, St. Alphonsus Liguori, St. Teresa of Avila, St. John of the Cross, St. John Henry Newman, and of course, St. Paul the Apostle. The Paulist Associates are lay people who study the spirituality of the Paulist Fathers and try to live it through our daily lives. Non-members are welcome to attend our meetings to join us for community prayer, reflection on Paulist spiritual topics, and lots of laughter and friendship. Austin Prayer Vigil for Life, August 18 The Austin Prayer Vigil is scheduled for Saturday, August 18, at St. Helen Parish (2700 E. University Ave., Georgetown). Mass will begin at 7am followed by Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, which will be in the church. A car caravan will travel to Whole Womans Health where the Mysteries of the Rosary will be prayed. Benediction will follow at St. Helen Parish at 10:30am and refreshments will be served. All are invited to attend. For more information, call (512) 949-2486. Religious Education ProgramHelp Needed The Religious Education program at St. Austin Church needs YOU. Here are the Top Ten Reasons college students should volunteer to help teach Religious Education (Sunday School) classes at St. Austin. 10. You need service hours for that sorority/fraternity/honors organization you joined. 9. You need an awesome recommendation from a UT alumna so that you can join a sorority/fraternity/honors organization. 8. You hope to graduate in 4 8 years and community service/ volunteer experience look great on rsums. 7. You are an Education Major and need some real-life teaching experience to make sure you like kids. 6. Your major/minor is Religious Studies and youre looking for a way to put some of that knowledge to use. 5. You feel like God is CALLING YOU TO SOMETHING, but youre not sure what it is and you think teaching Religious Education might be easy enough to try. 4. Youve done Longhorn Awakening, STRONG, and Bible Study, and now youre looking for a new challenge. 3. You think that you might want to go into professional ministry in the Catholic Church one day and want some experience to help you discern that call. 2. You were part of an AWESOME YOUTH MINISTRY program back home and you want to share that same fire with other teens. 1. UCC Schedule Change, beginning August 26 Beginning on Sunday, August 26, the UCC will return to its normal schedules. This means four Masses on Sundays (starting ON 08/26) at 9am, 11:30am, 5pm, and 8pm. We will also return our daily Mass schedule of MWF at 12:05pm and TTh at 12:30pm, with Reconciliation on Mondays at 12:35pm and Tuesdays at 1:00pm. Our office hours will return to 9am - 5pm, Monday Friday, and the building hours will be 9am - 9pm, with the parking lot doors being locked at 5pm. Paulist Fathers Mission Statement
