Material : ASTM A53 TYPE GRADE B/ ASTM A106 GRADE B SEAMLESS COLD WELDING Electrode : ROOT & FILLER : E 6010 & E 7018
Welding fabrications galvanizing is common. All commonly practiced welding and cutting techniques (gas metal arc, shielded metal arc, manual metal arc, oxyacetylene, friction, resistance) can be used on galvanized steel ( American Welding Societys [AWS] recommendation WZC, Welding Zinc Coated Steel). AWS WZC calls for welds of galvanized steel on areas that are free of zinc. Galvanized fabrications, the zinc coating should be removed at least one to four inches from either side of the intended weld zone and on both sides of the piece. Grinding back the zinc coating is the preferred and most common method. WELD JOINT PREPARATION: Weld joints shall be prepared as below specifications. Bevel end preparation shall be prepared by means of grinding. Surfaces (hot dip galvanized) or edges that have been prepared to remove scale, oxidized metal and deep irregularities prior to fit up. Paint, dirt, grease or other foreign matters near the bevel shall be cleaned prior to fit up. FIT-UP: Fabrication will be carried using pipe platforms/stands and lineup clamps wherever possible. Bevel angle and root gap shall be maintained as per the approval. Tack welds at the root of the joint shall be made with filler metal equivalent to that used in the root pass and shall be made by qualified welders using procedures as per approval. This also applies to tack welds that will not remain as part of the complete weldment. The maximum permitted misalignment of weld joints shall be lesser of 2.5 mm or 25% of the material thickness. Where socket welding is required the pipe will be inserted in the socket to its full extent and retracts approximately 1.6 mm to 2.0 mm before welding. Field-fit weld points will be selected to allow maximum flexibility and minimum rework during erection and tie-in welding.
Root pass shall not be left out with out immediately welding the hot pass. DP TEST Shall be carried over after Root pass before hotpass. All manually welded fusion joints shall be welded minimum of 2 layers. After completion of welding, visual examination shall be done by the Welder, followed by his Foreman and the Descon QC. Surface oriented defects shall be attended by grinding, filing and or welding before proceeding to the next job. The evaluation of indications and the acceptance criteria for visual inspection shall be in accordance with ASME B 31.3. Non-destructive examinations shall be performed as per the project specifications. NDT requirements and acceptance standard shall be as per the Owner approved NDT procedures and Project specifications. Coating: Cold galvanizing will prevent further corrosion and also stop rust creepage. Treated surfaces can be painted over after allowing to cure. All Welding joint shall be cleaned before cold galvanizing inside and outside weld postion. Approval By Penta / FLS Engineer Submitted by Descon QC
