Write a short note on Faraday rotation in ferrites. Also explain it with examples. (7 marks). 9. Write a short note on microwave attenuators. (5 marks). 10. Find the scattering parameters for the series and shunt loads shown below. Show that for the series case, and that for shunt case. Assume characteristic impedance Z0.

11. Consider two 2-port networks with individual scattering matrices and that the overall parameter of the cascade of these networks is given by

(e) what is the reflection coefficient seen at port 1 if a short circuit is placed at the terminal plane of port 3 and all other ports are terminated with matched loads?

14. Show that the sum of terms of any column of S-matrix of a lossless network when multiplied by the complex conjugate of the corresponding terms of any other column, is zero. 15. The scattering matrix of a two port is given by

Designate the ports in the main guide as 1 or 2 and the port in the auxiliary guide as 3 and 4. 17. In H-plane T junction, 20mW power is applied to port 3 that is perfectly matched to the junction. Calculate the power delivered to the load 60 and 75 connected to ports 1 and 2. 18. An isolator has an insertion loss of 0.5 dB and an isolation of 30 dB. Determine the smatrix of the isolator if the isolated ports are perfectly matched to the junction. 19. Determine the s-matrix of a 3-port circulator given insertion loss of 0.5 dB, isolation of 20dB and VSWR of 2. 20. A directional coupler has the scattering matrix given below. Find the directivity, coupling, isolation.

21. Prove that it is impossible to construct perfectly matched lossless, reciprocal 3-port junction.
