Lords Prayer in Lessons The purpose of the following layout is to integrate textile and visual learning techniques when

teaching the Lords Prayer for children (ages 6-8 recommended). The program is best completed in groups of 4-6 children. Lessons are to be led by a teacher/lesson leader. Each lesson should have each respective line of the Lords Prayer printed and posted clearly on colorful cardboard. Each Lesson should last for approximately 15-25 minutes. Groups will begin at the 1st lesson and move through each subsequent lesson learning a new line to the Prayer over a 6 week period. At the beginning of each lesson, the children should be encouraged by the new lessons leader to repeat the previous lessons line and recall an account of their activity. The leader should then follow movement below: Line: Using the cardboard mounted print of the line, read the line aloud as a leader; one finished, repeat together as a group. Purpose: definitively articulate the suggested purpose of the line as a leader. Scripture: each leader should have a printed copy of the recommended scripture. Pending the literacy of the group, either select a volunteer to read aloud or read aloud as leader. Activity: guide the group through the activity. Question: once activity is completed, ask group to reflect upon activity and questions. Takeaway: definitively articulate takeaway to group; repeat Line. Lesson 1: Line: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Scripture: Psalm 150 Purpose: to praise God! Activity: Sing a previously taught song (Vacation Bible School, childrens choir, other Sunday School lessons), play a sing-along audio cd, or teach a new song pertaining to worshipping and praising God. This then is repeated to include various expressions of worship for the songtry singing the first time, try coloring during the second time, try dancing during a third time, try using small musical instruments with which the children may participate a fourth time, etc. Question: What way did each child like to worship best? What made it special for them? Why do we sing in church? What is each childs favorite song to sing regarding God? Why? Takeaway: We get to praise God!

Lesson 2: Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Scripture: Matthew 25:34-36Wait to read until Activity! Purpose: to want what God wants! Activity: Have each student select a blank sheet of paper and coloring utensils. Ask them to draw something they want. Read Matthew 25:34-36. After hearing this, ask them to draw something God wants. Share your pictures. Question: What does God want? Why does he want it? What is your part in giving God what he wants? Takeaway: We want what God wants! Lesson 3: Give us this day our daily bread. Scripture: Luke 12:29-31 Purpose: to ask God for what we need! Activity: Picture Matching Game: The leader will be creating a picture matching memory game for the children. On one blank piece of paper, draw a person saying Im hungry. On a second piece of paper, draw a picture of a loaf of bread. This will be considered a matched pair. Draw people saying Im thirsty (matched with a glass of lemonade), Im cold (matched with a coat), I need a place to stay (matched with a house), Im lonely (matched with a picture of other people). Arrange the sheets of paper upside down. Allow a child to select one piece of paper to be placed picture up, then allow another child to select another piece of paper in an attempt to match the first picture. If the two pieces selected match, remove them from the table as matched. If they do not match, place both sheets picture-side down and allow the children to pick again. The goal is have the children match all needs with the matching picture. Question: What are some of your needs? How does God fill them? Takeaway: We ask God to give us what we need! Lesson 4: And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.

Scripture: Isaiah 43:25-26 Purpose: to ask forgiveness and give forgiveness Activity: Have a child place a sugar cube in a clear bowl. Stir the bowl until the sugar disappears. Ask the children where the sugar went. Explain, In the same way, God no longer sees our sinwhen we look at others, we should forgive them their sin too. Question: What are sins in our lives that God forgives? What are moments when we forgive others? Takeaway: We want Gods forgiveness and we get to forgive others! Lesson 5: Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Scripture: Psalm 23 Purpose: to ask God to guide us in protection! Activity: The purpose of this activity is to have children navigate a small obstacle course with a partner to guide them representing how God guides us through trials and temptations. Set up an obstacle course using chairs/cones which children can navigate through blindfolded with a partner moving from a beginning point to an end point. On the chairs, list temptations or evils that children may encounter such as not sharing, saying a bad word, disobeying my parents, etc. (recommend 4-5 obstacles). Have a single child begin to navigate the obstacle course blindfolded and alone (while being cautious of their safety, allow them to navigate the course and bump into obstacles) as the rest of the group watches in silence. After the child has struggled to avoid the obstacles, allow them to retry the course with a seeing partner to verbally guide them and walk behind them. Allow all children to try blindfolded and as a partner. Question: How hard was it to make it through the course without a partner? Was it easier with a partner? Why? If we are the one blindfolded, who does the partner represent? Why? Takeaway: we ask God guide us in protection! Lesson 6: For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever and ever. Amen. Scripture: Purpose: everything belongs to God!

Activity: Equip each child with a paper and writing utensil. Have the children follow the leader single file into three distinctly separate areas. Stop in each area for 4 minutes and instruct the children to write down everything they see that belongs to God (recommend fellowship gathering space where people are present, outside environment where natural creation can be observed, into a childrens nursery with toddlers/infants). Return to lessons respective classroom setting and have the children complete a final 4 minutes of writing everything that they see which belongs to God. Have children share what they saw in each room that belongs to God, creating a master list on a whiteboard or visual display. Question: What did each child write down? Why does that belong to God? How does that change our actions? Why is it important to remember that? Takeaway: Everything belongs to Godincluding you!
