GENERAL SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

4Be aware that the number of scholarship applications greatly
exceeds the grants available and that the competition for scholarships is very tough.

4 Scholarship recipients commit themselves to taking a full study

load (a minimum of 3 class hours per day), to take the final examination, write assignments and participate in writing a report to the scholarship donor (if applicable).

4The amount of the awarded scholarship is non-negotiable and

cannot be increased at a later point. Therefore, it is the recipients responsibility to evaluate if she/he can afford participation at the ISS after reviewing the costs involved and given scholarship amount.

4 The scholarships are of varying value, according to the

documented financial resources of the individual applicant and the regulations pertaining to the scholarship in question.

ISS APPLICATION CHECK LIST

An application is not considered complete until all necessary documents are submitted. If some documents are not available before the deadline, make a note in the application form and send them later. Submit the application documents in the order listed underneath. Photos should be passport-type photos and you should paperclip them to the application form (in field 1.14.).

I have included a statement of purpose

Write a statement of purpose of 1 page (maximum 500 words) to introduce yourself and state why you wish to study at the ISS. Applicants for Norwegian language levels 3 & 4 should write the statement in Norwegian.

I have included 2 letters of recommendation

Recommendations should be written by someone not related to you by blood or marriage and must include contact information to the reference person. The recommendation must provide information about your academic abilities, character and seriousness of purpose.

I have included documentation of my English language skills

Applicants who are not native English speakers must document their English language skills with one of the following: 4 TOEFL test result of min. 500 [paper-based], 170 [computer-based] or 60 [internet-based] (sent directly from ETS-TOEFL) 4 IELTS test result of min. 5,0 or more (sent directly from the British Council or submit a certified copy) 4 Statement of your English proficiency from an English teacher or employer 4 Completed one year of studies at university level in the USA, UK, Ireland, Australia, Canada and/or New Zealand 4 Other ways of meeting the English language requirements are mentioned on our website (www.summerschool.uio.no/admission/)

EU citizens may submit a photocopy of their National Identity Card instead of the passport. Applicants with a residence permit in Norway must also submit a copy of the residence permit stamp in their passport.

The application fee is waived for scholarship applicants from developing countries, Eastern Europe, and the former Soviet Union Republics.
