2012 SHCV MASTERS HOTYAs you will see from the attached schedule, we have made some changes to the classes at the HOTY. We have expanded the number of classes and provided our junior owner/rider competitors with a class only for them. With the exception of Led Classes and the feature events, all classesincluding intermediate and debutante classes - are now Top Ten. These classes will have a Champion and Reserve Champion, but will not have placegetters. Saturday afternoon, with music and celebratory nibbles, will be dedicated to the Junior Equestrian Challenge and The Gilt Edge Cup. Be warnedwe also have a couple of surprises, which will be revealed on the day ALL-STATES SHOWDOWNThe SHCV is very excited to announce that we have successfully applied to introduce and host the first National SHC Horse and Rider of the Year to be called the All-States Showdown. As a point of difference, Champions and Reserve Champions of various classes from each state SHC HOTY from both 2011 and 2012 will be eligible to compete at the 2013 All-States Showdown . We are still finalising the dates and location, but we will provide more information about this exciting news soon. JUDGES WORKSHOPWe held our third Judges Workshop on Sunday 1 July 2012, to a fantastic turnout. Our workshops are not designed to tell how people to judge a horse, but are designed to discuss varying aspects of judging that judges often find difficult or confronting. The SHCV is privileged to have some extremely knowledgeable members with Peta Plozza presenting on Intermediate Turnouts; Dr Lara Tweedie presenting on confirmation, soundness, blemishes and scars; and Fiona Mardling, presented on Leading Rein Pony and First Ridden Pony. Their expertise was greatly appreciated by all. I am please to announce that all attendees who sat their General List judges exam and National List judges exam passed with flying colors. Please see our website for a revised List of Judges as of 1 August 2012. Just a reminder that you need to remain a financial member at all time to remain on the list. CLINICS Our winter clinics have been a great success, with Daryl Hayes and Helen DeBrough as instructors. With the ability to host more clinics and include non-members, we will be increasing the number of clinics. If you want to have a clinic in your area with a particular instructor, email us at shcv@eques.com.au We don't run them to make money; we run them as a service for you. AGMRecently, I attended two AGMs: the SHCV held our AGM on 28 July and the SHCA held theirs on 25 August. No members of the SHCV were up for re-election; however, we welcome back Kym Ellery to the Committee and say a big thank you to Miranda Kerr who resigned from the Committee. I would like to thank Miranda for her support over the past few years. Miranda will continue to provide support at our events. As for SHCA, Bruce Flood continues as President and Roma Stonestreet as Secretary. I would like to thank the fantastic response by 300 plus of our members who signed up in time for the SHCA AGM which gave us our maximum entitlement of three delegates/voting rights. NATIONAL AFFILIATE CONFERENCE Held on 26 August on the day following the SHCA AGM, this is always a great opportunity for each state to discuss matters particular to them and to provide a consistent approach to how matters are addressed. Its also a great forum to share ideas and initiatives. HORSE GEAR MARKETOur inaugural Horse Gear Market night at Woofpurnay, Narre Warren North was a huge success on 23 June. We are currently in discussions with another venue to host a huge Horse Gear Market night in 2013. Once finalised, we will make an announcement as to the date and location. We look forward to another exciting event hosted by the SHCV. With a busy year ahead for the SHCV, we look forward to seeing you soon. Tony Norris, PRESIDENT M: 0417 037 647

No other classes will be held at this time, with the afternoon dedicated to these events. Please encourage family and friends to join you for a relaxing afternoon as we celebrate our 10th anniversary

Junior Equestrian Challenge (Owner/Rider) 8 years and under 17 years Junior competitors are the backbone of showing and the SHCV is keen to positively showcase our sport and their participation. The aim of The Junior Equestrian Challenge is for our junior riders to proudly display the four ingredients essential to being a successful show horse and rider combination: correct rider position and use of seat and aids; correct placement of hands with soft connectivity between the rider and the horses mouth; a quality horse with good manners and paces; and the overall first impression of horse and rider partnership. I am sure that family, friends, fellow competitors and spectators will all on watch on proudly as each rider is given an opportunity to compete .

The Gilt Edge Cup

The Gilt Edge Cup will be presented to a horse over 15hh, that in the opinion of the four Judges, best shows thoroughbred qualities. Each horse will be judged on their manners, paces and performance. Each finalist will be judged both led and ridden. This is a stand alone class, with the winner receiving $500.

GRAND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS The Grand National is becoming such a huge event that stabling and parking is at a premium. In many instances, competitors with limited classes will not be able to stay on-site for the duration of the show.

2013 ALL-STATES SHOWDOWN SHCA National Horse and Rider Show Hosted by the SHCV
It is with great excitement that the SHCV announces that it will be hosting the inaugural 2013 All-States Showdown. At the suggestion of our members, we applied to the SHCA to initiate and host a National Horse and Rider Show. As a point of difference, and to assist with economies of scale, Champion and Reserve Champions from each State SHC HOTY for two consecutive years will be invited to attend. The only proposed event without a qualification will be the Open Shetland class as not every State currently caters for Shetlands. Horses and Riders will be representing the State for which they qualified. A qualified horse may be ridden by any SHC member in saddle classes, and a qualified rider may ride any SHC registered horse in rider classes. Saturday evening will play host to several feature events open to qualified horses. Each State will appoint a Chief dEquipe, and sportsmanlike state rivalry is encouraged.

The Executive of the SHCV has reviewed a number of suitable venues to host such an event. It has been decided that the impressive five-star Boneo Park Equestrian Centre is the most appropriate venue to host the 2013 All-States Showdown on a date to be confirmed. Eco-friendly Boneo Park offers amazing facilities: a huge indoor arena of European standard with adjoining warm-up arena; massive outdoor arena of European standard; beautiful and impeccably maintained stable block with warm washes; yards; individual powered sites; competitors retreat and canteen; lots of parking; horse riding trails; with friendly and eager staff. Guess whatyou don't even clean out the stables; theyre all prepared with fresh shavings and cleaned for you! Simply MAGNIFICENT. In due course, we will be launching a stand-alone website that will detail everything you need to know about the All-States Showdown. To encourage spectators, to maximise the benefit of hiring such a venue, to provide value for money for our members, and to provide an opportunity for all of our members to ride at a five-star facility, we will be hosting the 2013 SHCV Autumn Classic (GN qualifier) on the day following the 2013 All-States Showdown. Not every state has the level of communication the SHCV offers. So when speaking to interstate friends (rivals), pass the word. This proposal is still in the development phase and may not have filtered to interstate members as yet.

WANTEDHELPERS AND STEWARDS

The SHCV is looking for volunteers willing to provide support at our events. The 2012 SHCV Masters HOTY is going to be a huge event and we are looking for helpers and Ring Stewards. To assist in covering the expenses of our volunteers, $50 per day is paid to each approved volunteer. If you can assist on Friday (set-up), Saturday or Sunday, please let a member of the committee know, or email us at shcv@eques.com.au, or call me. Tony Norris SHCV PRESIDENT M: 0417 037 647
