THOUGHTS FROM BRAD

This has been a crazy week around the globe. 9/11 was remembered, embassies were overtaken and people killed. There is great uncertainty in the Middle East and the economy still stinks. Did I leave anything out? Life gets crazy and is often uncertain. Yet never forget, the God who put all things into existence is still in control. Sometimes in life we are going along, doing alright, and managing ups and downs of our routines, when out of nowhere a boulder drops from the sky and lands on our lives. It might be a serious illness, a job loss, or something that just wasnt in our plan; the weight is often sudden and crushing. In that moment, remember Pauls words to the church at Corinth. He wrote: We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed (2 Cor. 4:8-9). As believers, we may be forsaken by friends, as well as persecuted by enemies; but our God will never leave us or forsake us. You may have fears within, as well as fighting from without; you will not be destroyed. Hold on to your faith! Be strong and courageous! In His Service, Brad

BITS FROM BRO. DAVE

SUNDAY EVENINGS IN THE SANCTUARY:

SCOTTS THOUGHTS
We have been given a ministry of reconciliation. (2Cor 5:18-21) This is an urgent and serious responsibility, yet many times we are easily distracted and drawn away from this vital task. When we get caught up in thinking about things from a worldly point of view, there is no shortage of things competing for our attention. Even within the church we have activities and programs that are good things, but can replace worship and evangelism as a primary focus if we are not careful. At its core, worship is about declaring Gods worth. When our day begins with acknowledgment of Jesus as Lord of our lives, declaring His worth as preeminent in our lives, our priorities necessarily change. When we recognize how Jesus paid the price to redeem us, and not just us, but all those around us who dont yet know him, urgency is restored. When we walk this earth with His songs, His scriptures, His heart for the lost, we see people in need of a Savior and the Holy Spirit within us will break our hearts with compassion and give us His words. People will see a life surrendered to Christ, see Jesus as Lord of our lives and respond, not to us or our words, but to Jesus living in us. Lord, fill us with your Spirit. Help us to declare your place of honor in our lives by the way we worship with our lives. Give us that sense of urgency and purpose. Fill us with your heart for the lost. Let them be overwhelmed with His compassion in us that they might trust Him and be redeemed.

Last Sunday evening we resumed these weekly gatherings by opening a series of lessons from II Corinthians. Tonight (9/16) the theme is Leadership Expectations (II Cor. 1:12-24). Next week the study will be Restoring the Backslider (II Corinthians 2:5-11). If you are not involved in a small group, on Sunday evenings, I encourage you to join us. WEDNESDAYS: On September 12, we kicked off our fall studies. The 10:00 am and 6:30 pm study groups began an examination of The Church Through The Centuries. This will be a condensed survey of the churchs development from its birth through the 20th and 21st centuries. I do hope you will plan to join us.
FINAL THOUGHT: I write down everything I want to remember. That way, instead of spending a lot of time trying to remember what it is I wrote down, I spend the time looking for the paper I wrote it on.

Core Values...
Values central to the life, mission and vision of Fifth Avenue Church of Christ are:

Sermon Notes ________________________

________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ _______________________________________

Christ-Centered Worship
We make it a priority every Sunday to celebrate Jesus through our music. (Romans 11:36-12:1-2). We focus on Jesus through grace-based preaching and teaching & understand the Bible is our authority (2 Timothy 3:16).

Church Health and Biblical Balance

Church health becomes reality when God's people seek harmony & live consistently. We expect every member to protect the unity of Christ's Church. (Romans 12:16; 1 Peter 3:8)

Global Evangelism
We are constant to our founding call to worldwide evangelism, proclaiming to all that Jesus Christ is the Savior, Healer, and Soon-Coming King (Acts 20:27).

Fellowship and Ministry

After people begin their journey with Jesus, we will equip them to find a ministry based upon their strengths. We want everyone to serve in some capacity. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) We also want His church to be the living evidence of His love and power to the world.

How Can I Respond Today?

At FACC we look to the Bible for guidance on all issues. We believe that Gods Word is clear concerning what a person must do to become a Christian. Trust that Jesus can bring you to salvation. Turn (repent) from the sin in your life. Confess your desire to make Jesus the Lord of your life. Be baptized (immersed) in water for the forgiveness of sins and to receive the Holy Spirit into your life. To make this life decision for Christ, we ask that you come forward during our commitment song at the conclusion of the Sunday message. Baptized believers are welcome to become members at FACC by coming forward on Sunday morning or by seeing our Senior Minister to discuss this further. We ask that you complete a series of Curious classes to help you better understand what you are committing to as a member.

Discipleship
We do not want you to "get religion" here at Fifth Avenue Church of Christ in Lancaster. We are all about teaching you that Jesus seeks a daily relationship with Him through a life of obedience. In other words, we want to see the things you are taught actually change your lifestyle & your daily decisions.

Social Conscience
We place high value on the sanctity of human life, of Biblical marriage and morality, and we welcome ethnic diversity (Isaiah 56:7; Philippians 2:15-16).

OUR PURPOSE WE EXIST TO
