The creation of a techno-bridge: mobile phone

High School

Time: 90 minutes

Objective: Students will explain the evolution of mobile phones since the creation of the first of them. They will create (drawing) their own futuristic device, explain its characteristics and debate about the pros and cos of mobile device usage.

Introduction: Nowadays, almost every single person has a mobile phone, but, do you know when and how it started? Do you know the positives and negatives aspects of possess a mobile phone? Do you know how the first mobile phone looked like? Do you know who created it? Can you imagine how will the future devices look like? Well, come on to discover it!

Guide questions: Who was the creator of the first mobile phone? In what year was it created? What were the main functions or characteristics of the first mobile phone? Mention the most significant differences between the first mobile phone and the latest mobile phone of our era. Mention the names of the pioneer companies of mobile devices. Based on all the information you verified, in your personal opinion, what are the advantages and disadvantages of using mobile phones applied in our country?

ACTIVITY # 2 (20 minutes)

PRESENTATION IN FRONT OF THE CLASS: In trios, imagine how the futuristic mobile phone will looks like and draw in a piece of paper the model that comes to your mind, color it and indicate what functions your invent has. Try to convince your customers (class) why your creation is the best choice for them.

ACTIVITY # 3 (30 minutes: 5 minutes for preparation 5 minutes for the first group speech 5 minutes for the second group speech 10 minutes for mutual questions and feedback 5 minutes for the resolution of the third group)

DEBATE: The whole class will be divided in three groups. One group is going to be in favor of the use of mobile phones and present all the positive aspects and points of view, the other group is going to be against to the use of mobile phones and explain why they think that is not convenient for the people, and the third group is going to be the judges. After listening all the arguments, the judges will decide together what group defended their points better with true facts and credible examples.
