An Interview With An Imaginative Migrant

Human migration is physical movement by humans from one area to another, sometimes over long distances or in large groups. There are 2 types of migrants: Emigrants- Are people who leave the country. Immigrants- Are those who enter the country.

I was introduced to a Tibetan by my friend. My friend wanted me to get a job for the Tibetan as his condition was pathetic. I asked my friend to send the concerned person to me on a suitable date. The Tibetan met me at my house last Sunday and following is the conversation that took place between us. Siddharth:Good Morning please take a seat. Migrant:Thank you sir. Siddharth:Can I know your name please? Migrant:Tenzing Norway. Siddharth:What are you? Migrant:I am a commerce graduate, I did my graduation in Delhi University. Siddharth:Where did you do your schooling? Migrant:My schooling was done in the local school of dharamshala. Siddharth:Since when are you living in Mumbai? Migrant:My grandparents had to flee from Lasha, the capital of Tibet overnight. Siddharth:How did your grandparents and you manage to enter india? Migrant:They had to pass through cold terrains and enter India, they had no difficulty entering India as there was minimum of security forces at the place where they entered the country. Siddharth:Why did you flee from Tibet? Migrant:My grandparents were forced to leave Tibet for fear of persecution by the Chinese.

Siddharth:Dint the UN come for your rescue? Migrant:The communist regime in The Peoples Republic Of China considered Tibetans as slaves, they had concurred our country in the 1950s and we are the most peace loving people in the world. We were not allowed to follow our religious systems, many of our monasterys were destroyed. Siddharth:How do you find your life in Mumbai? Migrant:I have turned towards Mumbai for a livelihood and I will have to accept the existing conditions. Siddharth:What rights have been denied to you? Migrant:I came from dharamshala to Mumbai last month searching for a job, till now I havent been denied from any rights. I have been staying with a friend of mine in Mumbai and I am in a need of a job to make both ends meet. In the process I met Mr. Arvind Kamle who turned out to be your friend and he suggested me your name to obtain a job. Siddharth:Have you any previous experience of a job of a clerk? Migrant:Yes sir, I worked in a shop in dharamshala righting accounts for the shopkeeper for the period of 2 years. Siddharth:You can put in your application containing your bio-data to my address, I shall forward it to my employers, you may have to wait for some time to settle down in a reasonably responsible job. Before you depart let me ask you some questions of your personal life. Can I know your age? Migrant:I am 24 year old Commerce graduate. Siddharth:Are you married? Migrant:Being unemployed I have not decided on my marriage. Siddharth:Are you proficient in any sports? Migrant:Yes I use to play soccer for a club in dharamshala. Siddharth:How many languages do you know? Migrant:Sir, iam good in English and I have learnt hindi throughout my academic life. Siddharth:Are you involved in any social acivities? Migrant:No sir but I always wanted to.

Siddharth:After you send me you application, a positive answer would reach you on the address given by you in the time period of 2 weeks from the date of application reaching my office. Migrant:Thank you sir I appreciate your efforts to help me.
