Geometry Learning Goals

Chapter 1: Tools of Geometry

1.1: Points, Lines, Planes, Rays, and Segments I can name points, lines, rays, line segments, and planes. I can add and subtract line segments. I can duplicate a line segment using a compass and straightedge. I can describe the intersections of lines and planes. 1.2: Naming Angles, Classifying Angles, Duplicating Angles, and Bisecting Angles I can name angles. I can classify angles. I can duplicate an angle using a compass and straightedge. I can construct angle bisectors. 1.3: Complements, Supplements, Midpoints, Perpendiculars, and Perpendicular Bisectors. I can calculate the supplement and complement of an angle. I can construct a perpendicular, a perpendicular bisector, and the midpoint of a segment. I can classify adjacent angles, linear pairs, and vertical angles. 1.4: Two Methods of Logical Reasoning I can define inductive reasoning and deductive reasoning. I can identify methods of reasoning and contrast methods of reasoning. I can create examples using inductive and deductive reasoning. 1.5: Conditional Statements, Postulates, and Theorems I can identify the hypothesis and conclusion of a conditional statement. I understand the truth value of conditional statements and can use a truth table I can differentiate between postulates and theorems. I can differentiate between Euclidean and non-Euclidean geometries. 1.6: Paragraph Proof, Two-Column Proof, Construction Proof, and Flow Chart Proof I can use the addition and subtraction properties of equality. I can use the reflexive, substitution, and transitive properties.

I can write a paragraph proof, complete a two-column proof, perform a construction proof, and complete a flow chart proof. Chapter 2: Parallel and Perpendicular Lines

2.1: Angles Formed by Transversals of Parallel and Non-Parallel Lines I can identify the relationship between two lines in space. I can identify transversals, alternate interior, alternate exterior angles, sameside interior, same-side exterior angles, and corresponding angles. I understand the relationship between the measures of angles formed by a transversal intersecting parallel and non-parallel lines. 2.2: Conjectures about Angles Formed by Parallel Lines Cut by a Transversal I understand and can apply the Corresponding Angle Postulate. I can make conjectures about pairs of angles formed by the intersection of a transversal and parallel lines. 2.3: Alternate Interior Angle Theorem, Alternate Exterior Angle Theorem, Same-Side Interior Angle Theorem, Same-Side Exterior Angle Theorem I can prove the Alternate Interior Angle Theorem. I can prove the Alternate Exterior Angle Theorem. I can prove the Same-Side Interior Angle Theorem. I can prove the Same-Side Exterior Angle Theorem. 2.4: Parallel Line Converse Theorems I can write and prove parallel line converse conjectures. 2.5: Naming Geometric Figures I can classify geometric figures as polygons, triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, heptagons, octagons, nonagons, and decagons. I can define diagonals of geometric figures. I can define consecutive sides and angles. I can define opposite sides and angles. I can classify polygons as concave, convex, regular, and irregular. 2.6: Classifying Triangles and Quadrilaterals I can classify triangles. I can classify quadrilaterals. 3.1
