PRESS RELEASE

In partnership with: Granada Hills, CA- Granada Hills Charter High School has been selected as one of three high schools in the United States to participate in Model United Nations (MUN) and Youth Assembly. Ten Granada Hills Charter High School students were chosen to participate in Qatar Foundation Internationals (QFI) Model United Nations and Youth Assembly on Climate Change in Doha, Qatar from November 8-17, 2012. The applicants were very competitive with over 120 students submitting applications and the field being narrowed down to 20 students for selection by QFI. The ten chosen students were selected for their communication skills, the quality of their essays, and their initiative to address the grand challenges of the 21st century, such as climate change, sustainability, and the environment. Having the honor to represent Granada Hills Charter isnt something we take lightly and it motivates us to work harder as we prepare for the conference, is the unanimous words of this acclaimed group of students. While in Qatar the students along with their peers from the U.S, Qatar, Brazil, and Argentina will participate in a climate-change-themed MUN and Youth Assembly in partnership with the Doha College MUN and THIMUN Qatar. During the conference, students will be engaged and will participate in discussions focusing on action plans related to the environment and climate change. In addition, the trip will be a valuable opportunity to learn from one another, to share their experiences, and to build strong friendships. With their counterparts from the Qatari schools the students will visit cultural and educational sites, engage with the Qatari community and learn about the culture and the history of Qatar.
