Africans living right alongside with Englishmen, Hebrews and Arabs coexisting within communities. The continent of Europe is a major host of multicultural nations. Europe as a whole has benefitted significantly from multiculturalism in many ways. First of all, build up societies by using the power of diversity. Adam Smith in his book Wealth of Nations highly urged countries that to progress the most effectively each nation should specialize in certain areas of production at which they were best and trade amongst each other. Today his idea has proved to be very lucrative and beneficial. However the only way such benefits were reaped was by working together. British speaker David Cameron attested to such success of cultures cooperating to together: People work together as an inclusive and cohesive community. However Cameron goes on to explain how this cohesion comes about: This is achieved by recognizing cultural, linguistic, and religious identity, as well as the common good of the entire community. All over Europe variety has benefitted In addition, the multicultural nations of Europe have prevented racial strife. Patrick Buchanan states in his article Will Multiculturalism End Europe: What these parties share is that all are anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim, and ethnonational. In essence the multiculturalism opposition does not want anything to do with foreigners in their country. There is great danger in this view. One only has look back on history to see the great tragedies and atrocities that racial discrimination has created. Examples of terrible conflict in history are World War II, the genocides in Sudan, or the oppression of the African-Americans for nearly two centuries in the U.S. Nevertheless it is a human tendency to be afraid or hostile toward things and people that are different. Europe on the whole has realized that different isnt always bad, and by embracing diversity they have not only prevented destruction but have been enriched. Lastly, Europes culture has been enriched by multiculturalism. It is one thing to be educated about the culture of foreign countries. On the other hand having the presence of foreigners coexisting with the native peoples gives a whole new level of understanding, and enrichment. Those who seek to remove multiculturalism seek destroy an effective way to bring peace between the nations of the earth. In conclusion, multiculturalism is vital to the well-being and growth of Europe. Its societal, and cultural benefits along with its prevention of harmful discrimination are only three reasons supporting its importance. As with anything, if treated with the improper attitude, multiculturalism will only bring destruction to Europe.
