KITCHEN SCIENCE PROGRAM On Thursday, October 11, 2012 at 6:30pm Cornell Cooperative Extensions 4-H Youth Development program will host a Cloverbud Kitchen Science Program. This program is for youth ages 5 to 8 who are interested in science. There are many items that we can find in our own kitchens that can turn into a science experiment. During this program we will explore new uses for everyday items. Youth will create an experiment to discover the concept of acids and bases in food. Pre-registration for this program is required. This program will be hosted at Cornell Cooperative Extensions Education Center on 377 Schroon River Road in Warrensburg. Cost is $2.00 per child. SALEMS FOOTLIGHTERS TO STAGE THE COURTHOUSE FOLLIES. The Salem Footlighters return to the stage at the Courthouse Community Center with The Courthouse Follies, directed by Siri Allison on Friday, September 28 and Saturday, September 29 at 7:30 pm. Al Buddes script traces its roots back to the Laugh-In style show the group did several years ago, but this time the production is an original work that focuses on the Courthouses 10th anniversary. It basically pokes fun at all of the Courthouse mishaps over the past ten years that nevertheless contributed to the successful community centerpiece it is today...and its still growing, he said. There will been some fun surprises! The Susi Shoes dancers will also figure prominently in the production. Hadnt been out to eat for a while, so decided to go ritzy. We went to Prime at Saratoga National, located at the golf course 458 Union Avenue Saratoga Springs, NY (Route 9P). (518) 5834653. We shared an appetizer called Surf & Turf Tempura. Very tasty! My companion had Grilled Colossal Shrimp with Arugula Salad. I had Grilled Salmon with Radicchi Salad. Both were excellent! The pleasant waitresses & waiters and atmosphere add to the experience! Rating: Excellent!

Volunteer 4 hours a week for 10 weeks. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program in Warren County is looking for volunteers for the up-coming tax season. VITA volunteers are trained and certified to assist moderate-low income individuals and families in completing their personal tax returns. Volunteers will receive free instruction and all training and certification materials necessary to prepare basic income tax returns. Training classes in basic tax law begins in November and includes the use of electronic filing software supplied by the IRS. FREE COMMUNITY DINNER- Shepherds Pie, butternut squash, coleslaw, dessert and beverages will be on the menu for the next FREE Community Dinner to be served on Saturday, September 29th, at First Baptist Church in Cambridge. The chefs will be members and friends of St. Lukes Episcopal Church. Meals are held on the last Saturday of each month from Noon to 1:00 p.m. The church, located at 29 West Main St. (between IGA and Glens Falls Bank), has a handicap accessible ramp and a handicap bathroom. Sometimes by the end of the month funds run short and these meals are intended to help stretch food budgets a little further, but also to provide a home-cooked hot meal for those living alone or perhaps needing a little company. Isnt it interesting, the liberals are eager to spend our money on what they consider charitable matters, but keep their hands in their pockets when asked to contribute their own money.) He has shown us his birth certificate. He has shown us his high school and college transcripts. He has shown us his social security card. He has shown us his law degree. He has shown us his draft notice. He has shown us his medical records. He has now us his income tax records. He shows us he has nothing to hide. Mitt Romney's background, experience and trustworthiness show him to be a great leader and an excellent citizen. I wonder if it makes any difference?

FOURTH ANNUAL APPLE FESTIVAL COMING TO CAMBRIDGE. Oorganized by the Cambridge Valley Chamber of Commerce, is set for October 6. This years event will include apple pie contests, games, crafts, food, vendors, music, a communitywide tag sale, and sidewalk sales. Everyone is invited to come to Cambridge, NY and join the fun in Railroad Park (next to the Cambridge Hotel) and in the Historic Cambridge Freight Yard (behind Hubbard Hall). These adjacent parks are accessible from Main Street (Route 372), Washington Street and Broad Street. APPLE PIE CONTESTS. Cambridge is known to be the home of Apple Pie ala Mode and to celebrate this claim to fame, two contests featuring Cambridges signature dessert, will highlight the days events. The Apple Pie Bake-off : Enter your favorite recipe and two homemade pies, which will be judged separately by the public and a panel of celebrities. There is no cost to enter this year. The winning baker will win a $50 gift certificate good at any Chamber business. There will be prizes for the second and third place winners as well. Public sampling of the pies will take place in Railroad Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is a small fee to taste the pies and vote. The public tasting will narrow the field to five pies for the panel of celebrities. Judging of the finalists will take place at 3 p.m. with the grand prize winner being announced at 4 p.m. The bake-off is open to amateur bakers only no professionals or chefs, please. Register to enter the eating contest at the Chambers Apple Festival booth anytime after 10 a.m. This year we will have a childrens event (39 years old) with smaller pies at 3 p.m. and the adult event (10 and older) will start at 3:30 p.m. COMMUNITYWIDE TAG SALE, SIDEWALK SALES & VENDORS: A communitywide tag sale is planned in conjunction with the Apple Festival. Chamber businesses are being encouraged to set up sidewalk sales as well and vendor spaces are available in both parks. This will be great day to visit Cambridge and get some end-of-summer/pre-holiday bargains! In addition to the merchandise vendors, several food vendors will have apple-themed treats for sale, along with lunch items. The Chamber will be selling slices of apple pie a la mode beginning at 2 p.m. Vendors are welcome. Pre-registration is required. LEARN ABOUT CARE AND REPAIR OF GRAVE STONESJoe Ferrannini of Hoosick Falls will talk about the care and repair of grave stones on Thursday, September 27, at 7:30 pm at the Town of Saratoga Town Hall, 12 Spring Street, Schuylerville. His interest in family history led him to old family cemeteries. When he found many of these in a bad state, he decided to get involved, so he studied the best and safest methods for cemetery care and the conservation of the gravestones. Ferrannini has restored numerous cemeteries and guided others in the repair of still other gaveyards. This program is sponsored by the Old Saratoga Historical Association.
